Lynn's Story
After graduation from NDHS in Jan. '56, I took a couple of extra classes there so my start in college would be in Sep. '56. That fall I began undergrad studies at Duke Univ. in Durham, NC and spent the next 4 yrs completing my bachelor's degree. My first paid job after Duke was as youth director for a church in Gainesville for about 7 months. Then I joined the Navy and spent the next 2 yrs sailing the Pacific Ocean and visiting foreign ports. My next big step was marrying a Dallas schoolteacher and going to work in her hometown of Nacogdoches. Our first born of 3 sons was born there and I got my Master's Degree at Stephen F. Austin State while working as a caseworker in the Child Protective Services division of the State Dept. of Public Welfare.
Our family expanded with the births of 2 more sons while I was an instructor/ assistant professor of sociology at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. In 1968, I came to Texas A & M University to teach, do research, and ultimately work for the Texas Agricultural Extension Service for the next 27 years. art-time driving for car rentals, auto dealerships, and limo services in the Denton and DFW areas. Life is good and I am enjoying life daily after several serious health problems.
I have traveled extensively since retiring. Places visited include British Virgin Islands, England, Wales, Scotland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Mexico. My cousins and I purchased a mountain home in Red River, New Mexico for vacation use and rental income. For a brief time after retiring, I served as a volunteer visitor for the American Camping Association to inspect camp facilities in accordance with industry standards. I have been active in church activities in the Dallas, Denton, Flower Mound, & Grapevine areas.
My wife and I have three grandchildren. Two are in Texas colleges and one is in elementary school. They have always lived in Texas but we have seldom seen them. The eldest grandchild traveled to study in England during the fall semester of 2011. The second grandchild is a junior at UT Arlington. Our youngest grandchild lives in the Austin area.
My interests include genealogy research, college sports, church activities, and keeping in touch with friends.
