Lynn Nelson:  

I was married in 1971 to a wonderful man who gave me 2 beautiful children. His job took us first to Iowa and then in 1988 to Kansas City. My children have grown and married and I now have a grandson and great grandson. In order to learn our way around the city and to meet new people, Jerry and I took up square dancing. We never did anything just halfway so within 2 years we were officers in our club, a year later we joined the Heart of America Federation Staff and then in 1996, I went to caller school. When my husband passed away in 1999, I really dove into my square dance activity. I have called in several different states and teach lessons to at least 1 class a year and often more. Square dancers are like an extended family and I have met wonderful people from literally all over the world through this activity. In the spring of 2014 I was honored to be named "Caller of the Year" and became a member of the Heart of America Federation Caller/Cuer Hall of Fame. It's an honor I never expected and will always treasure. This is not an activity for old people, it's an activity that keeps you young so you can do it when you get old.
