Lynn's Story
Life
I've been married since '94 to a man I met in a bar (can you say *cliche*, boys and girls?), and we have two children. Although...if you count the husband and pets, I've actually got six kids. We moved around a little over the years, but I think we've finally settled in a nice house in NE Georgia. I know we'll be here a while, because the husband swears he'll never move again.
I'm pretty heavy into amateur photography. It's an expensive hobby, but rewarding at the same time. And with the digital age, it's the ultimate in instant gratification. Plus it has the added advantage of making gift-giving easier for my husband. When he's stumped for a Mother's Day or birthday gift, he knows he can always present me with a new lens or filters or something else camera-related, and I'll be excited. (If you're curious about my photos I've got a photostream over at Flickr.com under username Lynn Wood Photos.)
I've also been writing for about fifteen years, which is totally *not* about instant gratification. I've got 3-1/2 manuscripts under my belt, although I'm not yet published. I have actually submitted one manuscript, and received a detailed rejection with an invitation to revise and resubmit. If you're going to be rejected, that's the way you want it to happen. ;-) For now, writing has been put on hold. Not because of the rejection, but because of other things in my life.
Besides those things, I was a stay-at-home mom for almost 20 years. And I had been known to wish I worked outside the home one min...Expand for more
ute, only to be glad not to have to deal with a nine-to-five the next. Be careful what you wish for, right? Especially since the itch hit and I ended up back in school. Earned my Associates' degree in nursing in 2015, and then I went back and got my Bachelor's in 2019. Now I'm an operating room nurse who wants to be a stay-at-home dog mom.
We tend to be a pretty outdoorsy family -- a fabulous day for us is lots of hiking and breathtaking scenery (with some great pictures thrown in for flavor). My kids are both athletic: my daughter's a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and played soccer in high school, my son's working toward his black belt, and has enough energy to exhaust me on a daily basis. Both kids are now high school grads, and my daughter earned her Bachelor's degree in 2017.
Ultimate goal? To be able to pull up stakes and buy some acreage in Montana or Wyoming, which became our favorite place in the world after our first Yellowstone vacation. I think even the husband would be willing to move again if we could swing that. It's all a matter of finding that perfect job.
Currently engaged in a fight for my life. I know that sounds dramatic, but then again, it is a little dramatic! I was diagnosed with breast cancer on April 15, 2020, and have had four surgeries so far. My oncologist doesn't think I'll need chemotherapy, so I'm thankful for small favors. I will be starting hormone therapy soon, and that's expected to last 5-10 years. Overall, I've got a good prognosis as long as I keep fighting.
