Lynn's Story

School - I went to Garden City (East) High School and remember good times as a member of the Girls track team during my Jr and Sr years as a shot putter and discus thrower. I loved working with all the girls on our team, we had some members with great talent! It felt great winning 1st place, in discus, in our conference meet my Sr year! It was also great having a co-coach of both the boys and girls team (Fred LaPlante) who had his olympic quality "100 Meters Hurdles" wife (Debby) work out with our team sometimes. (Fred Laplante whose wife Debbie Laplante held the American Hurdle record under Fred's training.) I also had a good time being "one of the guys" on the Golf Team in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. It was fun being elected co-captain by the golf team my senior year, with a coach who did not want any females on his team! I must not have been that bad since I made the Women's team at Michigan State University my freshman year!!! I also was invited to transfer to Redford Bishop Borgess on a high school golf scholarship! So there, Coach McQuillin! College - I will always remember my days in West Wilson Hall, at Michigan State University, and my room mate Sarah Seeger. We enjoyed concerts by Gary Wright and Emerson, Lake and Palmer, plus the wonder of Marcel Marceau, a French actor and world famous mime. I had season tickets for both the Football and Basketball seasons. What a joy to watch players like Kirk Gibson tear up the football field and the opponents! In Basketball I enjoyed watching the masterful performances of Magic Johnson, Greg Kelser and the whole team show the Big 10 conference who the big dogs were! I don't miss the winter "cross campus" jaunts to get to classes in the snow. I love snow, but not when trying to get to classes in the slush. I made the Women's team at Michigan State University my freshman year. I dropped out of MSU my soph. year, but continued my education at Schoolcraft (Community) College for 2 semesters until it was time to move to Florida. In 1979 I moved to sunny Florida and after taking the required classes at St. Petersburg (Jr.) College (Clearwater Campus and Tarpon Springs campus) I went into Real Estate. Selling anything from small part year vacation houses up to Private Country Club Executive homes. In 1983 I enrolled at the University of South Florida, Tampa. I did not have the snow and slush at the beautiful Univ. of South Fla, in Tampa and St. Petersburg.. I met lots of great students and Professors there. I obtained 2 Bachelor degrees in Computers (more i...Expand for more
nfo below). I sold and repaired, programmed and worked with computers at home and at churches after graduating. After feeling God's call to go into Christian Education and Counseling, I enrolled into Tampa Bay Theological Seminary to major in both and obtained my masters' degree. I really enjoyed my time there, interacting with students (many being active Pastors) from numerous denominations. It gave me an appreciation for how God works, when one is fully open to His leading, no matter what your church denomination is. I found there are bad churches, and good churches, yet Christians and non-Christians are found in each one! Tampa Bay Theological (now Dallas Theological Seminary, Tampa Bay campus) and Trinity College of FL are both great places to study -- since they are Bible based, not denominational based!!!! Life - As stated above, I moved to Tarpon Springs, Florida in 1979, when my dad retired from teaching at Garden City High School (East).. I went to the Univ. of South Florida, in Tampa, and obtained a BS in Management Info. Systems from their Bus. College and a BA in Engineering Technology from USF's College of Engineering. I have taught undergrad Computers at Trinity College of FL (in Dunedin and then New Port Richey/Trinity FL), while I worked on my Masters degree in Christian Education and counseling from Tampa Bay Theological Seminary (now Dallas Theological Seminary, Tampa Bay). In 1992 I moved to my parents home town of Shadyside Ohio, about 60 miles from Pittsburgh PA, and taught at Belmont (Technical) College while starting and running my own computer consulting company, where I consulted with many large businesses and colleges, churches and individual computer users. Built custom computers based on the customers needs, repaired computers and trained people on use of their software and hardware. I also have been active in teaching, training and Church planting. Due to severe health reasons, I( slowly became necessary to close my computer consulting business and now just live day to day fighting many health issues and surgeries. I class myself retired, with disabilities, but trusting God and thanking Him for sending me to the final doctor who was able to properly diagnose a pituitary condition that would have killed me by around 2010, had it not been found and being placed on proper stabilizing meds to slow it down.. It has caused me much physical damage and pain. But I thank God for every day he gives me and for medical research to detect my condition that was not available until 1999!
