Lynne's Story
Life
Let's see. . . What should I say? It's not that I've had such an interesting life. . .
After Evergreen I attended the University of Puget Sound for 3 terms, dropped out to get married, worked at Boeing (didn't everybody?), got laid off (didn't everybody?), moved to Michigan, started my family (one son, a mechanical engineer living in the UK; one daughter, a nurse who lives with her husband and two daughters in New Mexico), returned to school part-time to earn a degree in History.
Now, what good is a degree in History? That and 25 cents will buy you a cup of coffee (well, it would then--now it might buy the cup!), so I reviewed what I knew best--how to read, write, analyze, do research--and decided that law school would hone those skills. I attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, MI, divorced, passed the bar exam, worked in insurance, banking, manufacturing, and now in human resources for a high tech software development company in Ann Arbor. (Oops! Not any more. My job was eliminated as "duplicative and non-necessary" due to a reorganization and re...Expand for more
structuring by our parent company. Funny--I don't FEEL duplicative and non-necessary. Sigh. . . I absolutely HATE job hunting. I guess this is the perfect opportunity to do some self-assessment and maybe change careers. I hope I'll have some good news to report soon!)
My goal in life has always been to get my children through college. When my daughter graduated from nursing school in 2001, I realized I had accomplished that goal! I decided to do something for myself and returned to school to earn an MLIS (Masters in Library & Information Science) from Wayne State University. I still don't know what I want to be when (if?) I grow up, but perhaps I'll be a librarian when I retire from HR!
In January 2005, I married my best friend, Gary Kelley, an absolutely wonderful man! Gary is a controls engineer. He has two children, one daughter (a special ed teacher) and a son (a banker). They both live in Michigan, so we see them much more regularly than we see my children (I'm so jealous!!). And Gary's son is a dad now too, so we have our first grandson.
Life is so good!!
