Magdalene(Maggie)'s Story
Life
In high school you knew me as Magdalene(Maggie) or (Mag) Spoon. On June 12, 1951 I married Bob Tolson(most people in our class will remember Bob)We lived in Leesville and DeRitter, La.from June 1951 thru May 1952 before he got out of the US Service (Army) and went to SC in June 1952. We were married for 13 yrs. We had one son Steve who was killed in an automobile accident at the age of 29 in 1987(he was the love of my life). When I first came to South Carolina I worked as a clerk typist at EI duPont, now known as the Savannah River Site. I worked there from July 2,1952 until April 1957 when I left to have my son. I stayed home until he was fifteen months old and loved every minute of it, I then went to work for Georgia Natural Gas Co. in Augusta Ga. on Nov. 20, 1958, (Also known as Atlanta Gas Light Co. in Atlanta, Ga). We lived in the Maxwell Hse in Augusta, Ga.until We built a house in Aiken in 1959 and lived there until Bob left on 8,13,1964. Bob and I were divorced in Nov.1964.(Bob remarried in Feb 1965 to an old girl friend(the one before me)Ruth Warrick who died of cancer in Dec 1975, he remarried about 2 yrs later and then died in Jan 1986 of a heart attack.) I lived in Aiken until Sept 1975 before moving to North Augusta, SC. I remarried on June 28, 1969 to Al Moyer who was born and raised in Aiken, S.C.(Al has two children a daughter, Beverly and a son Allen, Beverly lives in Covington, Ga wth husband Ron and has 2 daughters, the oldest has two sons so we are great grandparents . Allen,(graduated USC) his son lives in HHI,SC and has never married and works in real estate. Beverly's daughter Betheny graduated from the Univ.of Ga.in Dec 2003 and continues to teach gymnastics in Athens. Her oldest daughter Angela and husband Jorge Cuzmar live in Irmo, SC with their 2 sons. I was Supervisor of Customer Service when I retired from Ga. Nat. Gas Co.in Jan.1994 (Now Atlanta Gas Light Company). I worked there 35 yrs. and 2 months. I was the first woman Supervisor of Customer Service in Augusta. Since retiring we live in our beach home at Hilton Head Island, SC. We sold our North Augusta home April 16, 2002 and a condo in HHI in June 2002 so we now are a 1 home family(normal). Al and I have done a lot of traveling. He loves to play golf and I play now and then . We are both in good health. I still line dance every week and we do ballroom, shag and country dancing so this is a weekly thing for us. Would love to hear from some of my classmates. Augusta at River Place on 9/30/2003 & spend some time there now, especially in the Summer so now we are back to 2 homes which keeps us busy, I suppose that's what we need in life. Would love to hear from some of you. Hope all are doing well!!! 2006/06/24 We are still living in Hilton Head, SC in THE WINTER and also in Augusta ,Ga. on the River in the Summer. THE OLDEST GRANDDAUGHTER ANGELA & HER HUSBAND JORGE NOW HAVE A THIRD SON NAMED BRYCE WHO WAS 8 IN AUGUST.. THE YOUNGEST GRANDDAUGHTER BETHENY GOT MARRIED AT THE BEACH HOUSE I HHI ON MAY 9, 2009 TO MATT ADAIR WHO ALSO GRADUATED FROM GEORGIA, THEY HAVE ONE SON EMORY WHO WILL BE 4 OCT 3 AND THEY ARE EXPECTING THEIR SECOND CHILD ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2013. BETHENY AND MATT LIVE IN SUMMER PLACE IN KNOXVILLE, NEAR WHERE I GREW UP AND WENT TO SCHOOL. ANGELA AND JORGE(Angela gradated from Clemson & Jorge from USC) ARE STILL LIVING IN COLUMBIA, SC WHERE THEIR OLDEST SON DJ WILL BE ATTENDING USC. WE GIVE A SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF MY SON TO USC OF AIKEN, SO WE HAVE SOMEONE IN SCHOOL EVERY YEAR, THE NAME OF THE SCHOLARSHIP IS "THE STEVEN ANDREW TOLSON MEMORIAL" OTHER THEN THAT I AM STILL LIVING CANCER FREE FROM BREAST CANCER FEBRUARY 2009 AND MY HUSBAND AL IS STILL LIVING AFTER ESOPHAGEAL CANCER SURGERY NOVEMBER 17,2010. SONNY OUR DOG A SHIH TZU WHO IS 15 HAD A TUMOR IN 2011 SO THE WHOLE FAMILY HAS HAD THE BIG "C". WE ARE ALL HANGING IN THERE! We had to have Sonny put to sleep on 6/24/14, h had kidney failure, we sure have missed him! MY SON STEVE WOULD HAVE BEEN 58 9/2/2015,HE WAS BORN ON LABOR DAYB 9/2/1957 AND DIED 5/14/1987. UPDATED 9/12/2015 . We now have a 5th great grandson Everett Adair, born 9/20/2013 to "Betheny and Matt Adair" who actually live in Summer Place just off Jenkins 'Street in Knoxville Tn. We are back in HHI, SC. COME SEE US IF YOU ARE IN OR NEAR HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC. Al IS NOW CANCER FREE SINCE 7/29/2014 BUT FOUND OUT THAT DAY THAT HE HAD 5 BLOOD CLOTS AND THEY IMPLANTED A DENALI VENA CAVA FILTER IN HIS CHEST TO CATCH THE BLOD CLOTS IF THEY GO TO THE HEART AND LUNGS, HE HAS 5 CLOTS, 2 BETWEEN THE HEART AND THE LUNGS, ONE ABOVE EACH KNEE AND AN OLD ONE IN THE GROIN OF HIS LEFT LEG. HE HAS BEEN ON XARELTO FOR A YEAR BUT THEY TOOK HIM OFF OF IT 7/29/15 AND HE IS ON LASIX (FUROSEMIDE) THREE DAYS A WEEK TO KEEP DOWN THE SWELLING IN HIS LEGS AND FEET. HE WAS 86 IN JULY AND IS DOING PRETTY GOOD FOR OLD FOLKS. WE ARE STILL DANCING AND HANGING IN THERE. WE WOULD WELCOME YOUR VISIT IF YOU ARE EVER IN THE AREA.
