With manufacturing moving to China, I was “retired” early – which was fine with me. Most interesting event: Susan I...Expand for more
traveled to Africa in 1995 and accepted an invitation from a student in the US to visit his village in Ghana. This student had been seized by the village Elders as their king and he said if you let me go back to the US to finish my PhD , I promise to bring you “resources” from the US – unknown to us we were the resources as we came to help (new roof for the school, books, supplies etc.). The Elders decided to have us seized so like the king we too would be obligated to continue to help the village – we are now priest-kings (after much training) and sub-chiefs and we still help. Best memories: In Mr. Fawcett’s chemistry class I fell asleep after taking a quiz. The next day he gave me a real bad time – I think partly because I aced the test. Some freshmen girls who knew me from Mary Coyle’s would go out to the parking lot, take down the top on my 57’ black Plymouth convertible and then insist that I give a ride – they did this more than once, and yes, I would always give them a ride.

They are back - our pink lady slipper orchids
Put a flower basket next to the feeder and quickly a hummer arrives - maybe the flowers helped? Though the weight of the basket causes a significant tilt.

Fresh herbs from the garden (basil is from the greenhouse). The mint is for mojitos and the thyme, rosemary, and oregano with the basil are for dinner and yes it is December 23rd.
Holiday breads, sourdough challah, chocolate cinnamon braided, and chocolate cinnamon rolled bread.
Holiday English muffins - potato, sourdough, green pepper, onion, parsley, and Herb de Provence - very aromatic.
Chocolate cinnamon swirl bagels for my dear Susan’s birthday.

A tower of bagels (2 tone swirl maple walnut) and a sea of English muffins (sourdough potato parsley). They will have to postpone my funeral if it falls on bread baking day.
Last of the tomatillos - mostly from volunteer plants. Into the oven for roasting.
