Mara's Story
Hello, fellow classmates!
I am a mother of four sons, ages 24, 22, 21 and 18. Only one is on his own, living in Chicago, working as a High School teacher. The others are all students.
I am and Administrative Manager of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI. This is a nurse manager job, but I have to manage the budget and supply chain for this large unit.
My siblings-- all Berkley High School grads: Anda, my sister lives in Conneticut and she is a corporate CPA, my oldest brother Uldis is an executive for Proctor and Gamble and lives in Boston, and my youngest brother Reinis lives in northern New Jersey (New York metropolitan area) and is a consultant in the mining industry. Dad is as active as ever.
In terms of my life, I have had a personal crisis that began in 2000 with"full realization" in the year 2004. I am divorced since 2004, and had to basically start all over--lost pretty much everything I had worked hard for---as I entered my 50s. Thank goodness I have such a wonderful family and great friends. It has been difficult to support the boys on my own, but I must say that at this point I am very grateful for what I have and relieved that I am in control of my life. We are doing OK and very positive about our future.
I currently lease a home in Orchard Lake, but as my youngest is graduating from West Bloomfield High School, I will be moving this Fall. One option is to live closer to the hospital----who knows, maybe I will be back in Berkley!
