Marc's Story
Better lucky than good sums up most of my life since High School. I knew I needed some discipline before trying anything else and so joined the Marine Reserves and was lucky enough to have a good time for 10 years before moving on. After a year of active service I started making my way through schools starting at CPCC and being lucky enough to finish up at NCSU where a few side jobs and connections from those led me to fall into a series of lucky career moves to where I am now working with a great group of scientist and engineers working on watershed restoration throughout the state. I won't get rich at my state job but I sure enjoy it and we are doing well enough. I have been lucky enough to stay married for 18 years to Tonja, the girl I started dating our senior year. r both of us to finish college while raising him. 5 years later we had a wonderful girl. Daniel is now a rising HS senior and Bailey is a rising 6th grader and thus far we have been lucky that they have been healthy, fun, and pretty good kids (certainly better than I was). We have lived in Durham for 14 years or so and although our house is small and a permanent restoration project, we are lucky enough to be beside other family land with a 7 acre pond that we can swim, fish, and canoe on and time we feel like it. Like everyone, not everything has been perfect but all in all I have been much luckier than I ever expected. We get to Mooresville a few times a year to see her family. As we drive in I often pass places that spark great memories of the our days at MSHS and wonder what everyone is up to. I hope everyone is well and that I am lucky enough to run into you in the future.
