Marci Porter:

CLASS OF 1967
Nashville, TN

Marci's Story

I always wanted to be a rock star. I did do that briefly. Then I learned to play a really mean stereo, managed a music store, and married a music man (twice). I haved lived in a few places since Nashville, but have finally settled in California with my second husband, children and grandchildren. I teach (amazing) ancient history and English to six grade students in a school outside of L.A. Occasionally I teach a chorus class after school. My husband and I are both originally from Michigan so we still have some property there including a little cottage on a lake that is near Lake Michigan. We also own 12 acres on two islands on Douglas Lake near Knoxville. We visited that property last year, decided it was beautiful, but maybe not where we wanted to stay with our somewhat unusual family. Then I reconnected with some old high school friends and now we are reconsidering our plans for that property. Any ideas? Please let me know. Not much would surprise any of you that I graduated with if you remember me at all because I only went to Hillsboro for my senior year. The most surprising thing to me was that my boy friend from high school who dumped me for a rich girl was the one who finally tracked me down. The best thing that has come out of that is my reconnection with my best friend from Hillsboro. I can't wait to...Expand for more
see her again. In the near future I am looking forward to retiring and hanging out on a beach or boat somewhere with my books, my grandchildren and my music. I would love o see our art teacher again although i don't remember her name. I just remember she was very tolerant and willing to get me out of classes that bored me. Te wildest thing I ever did in school was ditching to go to Irelands whenever I could get away with it. I think I had missed about 45 days of school my senior year by the time I graduated. I already mentioned what happened to my first serious crush, he dumped me for the rich girl and married her. I hope old friends remember that I was fun and caring. I wasn't very "smart" in those days. I'm better now! To be truly happy I'd be on a beach or boat with friends and/or family doing whatever... No big surprises. I am grateful for every day. I love working with children, my husband and I have been very fortunate to have each other, great children, and a fairly easy existence. We are by no means wealthy, I teach, he drives a truck, but we have not struggled. Best surprise - being reconnected with Tennessee. I would start earlier, and teach for more years. Weirdest job - singing nightly in the hotel in downtown Knoxville. Too many places and too many reasons (nothing bad or illegal) to write about!
