Marci's Story

Life I met my husband, Terry, when I was 21 years old. We dated for about 3 years and then went our separate ways without any further contact. We ran into each other at a bar 5 years later when I was about 29 years old and we have been together ever since. We married in 2000. My maid of honor was Carrie Eggers (now Messina). Other high school friends who attended that I remain in touch with today were Yvonne Ferdon (now Westfall), Stacy Johnson (now Granfor), and Stephanie Logan (now Cook). We had our daughter, Grace Dianne in May 2003 (now 4) and our son Brandon William in February of 2005 (now 3). I enjoy our children immensely. My husband, Terry, is a great Dad; very participative and hands-on. He is an attorney; a partner in a firm called Canepa, Riedy and Rubino. His firm specializes in construction defect litigation. Workplace After high school I started working as a front desk clerk at the Las Vegas Hilton. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life so I decided to take Hotel Administration classes at UNLV since I was working in a hotel. I was promoted to a Supervisor in Room Reservations in 1990 where I was working 10 hours a day 6 days a week with 2 days off every 3rd week while attending college. With the push from a fellow employee, I decided to take a position in Accounting as a staff accountant where I was paid the same amount of money for a 45 hour work week. It was there that I realized that Accounting/Finance was definitely for me. From there I held several positions; Operations Analyst, Chief Accou...Expand for more
ntant, and Assistant Casino Controller. I finished my BS in Hotel Administration in 1994. I then continued to take accounting classes. I left the Las Vegas Hilton in 1996 to go to the Gold Coast on Flamingo Road as an Assistant Controller. During that time, I obtained my CPA certification. I spent 2 years at the Gold Coast and returned to the Las Vegas Hilton in 1998 as the Director of Financial Planning. In 1999 I was promoted to Assistant Vice President & Controller and then in 2001 I was promoted to Vice President Finance. I held that position at the Las Vegas Hilton, which was owned by Caesars Entertainment, until it was sold to Colony Resorts in 2004. When it was sold, I transferred to the Caesars Entertainment Corporate Office as Vice President of Finance where I remained until the following year. The deal for Harrah's Entertainment to purchase Caesars Entertainment finally closed in June of 2005. At that time, I transfered as a dual property Vice President of Finance for both the Flamingo and Harrah's Las Vegas. Managing the Finance departments of two strip properties immediately after a merger required a great deal of hours on my part. At that time my daugher was 2 1/2 years old and my son was 7 months old, and I realized that I had to make a choice between my career and my family. I spent 6 months in that position before I resigned. I have been a stay at home mom since November 2005 and am really enjoying spending the quality time with my children. I have no intentions of going back into the career track anytime soon.
