Marcia's Story
I finally accomplished a life long dream; I completed my doctoral program and am now Dr. Marcia Bastian (as of Sept 2008)!
One of the biggest surprises in my life is that I ended up working in emergency response with Urban Search and Rescue. For six years now I have woken up every morning happy to be spending the day with my collegues.
As of 01 Jun 09, I will be starting a new job as a post-doc at a Research 1 Institution--it is a research position. [21 Jun 10 ... completed the Post-doc and am now back at Urban Search and Rescue for awhile.]
My son (an only child) is now 23 years old, living in Denver, and doing well in the adult world.

nto a bathtub the water is so warm! It's the Texas summer heat. I have a swim buddy. We keep each other honest and exercising.
I suppose most people from high school remember me (if anyone does at all) as quiet and "smart". Both true even today; these qualities are expressed differently now.
What would surprise most people about me at a high school reunion is that I have a quick witted, sharp sense of humor .... once I decide to talk. Also, even though I am in my mid-fifties, I am often mistaken for being in my early-40s. Not bad, not bad at all.
I've lived in Texas for many years now and love it here. Yes, yes, the summer weather is unforgiving, but the people and social environment more than make up for the ick-oid weather.
