Marcia's Story
I received my BA from Roosevelt U. in 1970 in Sociology. Worked 36 yrs for State of Illinois as job placement counselor, retired 2006. I work part time now with homeless persons doing job counseling. I became a Christian Scientist in 1973, and was healed of a long-standing addiction to amphetamines, tranquilizers and sleeping pills. I remain very involved with Christian Science and my church. in 1989 and lived in a nursing home from 1991 until his recent passing in April 2010. I am step-mother and legal guardian to his 35 year old son, who is developmentally/mentally disabled, and also lives in a nursing home. Since 1990, I've been making unusual beaded jewelry as a hobby. It's wonderful therapy, and a creative outlet. I give much of it away. Since June 2010 I have been taking voice lessons again (after a break of 32 years), relearning some of my music skills, and even beginning to compose songs.
