Marcia's Story

How do I hope old friends remember me? Gee....I'd just hope they DID remember me! Heaven knows I don't look a thing like I did last time they saw me!!! Besides, we're all getting so old, our memories aren't as good as they were 40 years ago so I'd just be okay if they remembered to put my name on the list. Oh, and I would hope they remembered that I was a nice person. Next idea...I always wanted to be a... nurse...when I grew up. I did. And my grandmother even offered to pay all expenses for TWU if I'd go. But noooo, I just had to get married because I was madly in love so I wed Floyd Duane (Butch) Phy JR in September after we graduated and moved off to Wichita Kansas and Air Force life, never looking back. After 30 years of marriage, we divorced and each moved on. Oh yeah...the question was about what I wanted to be...Yeah, I got there. I went to school a little later than my peers. They were having to come to work as experienced nurses, pregnant and tired, or dropping off their newborns at daycare for someone else to see the first smile or steps whereas I was taking my kids to school and picking them up as I started out being a GN (green nurse), working the night shift and being responsible for lives and scared to death. I saw my dream come true and I don't guess I would change things because I might not have had my wonderful sons if I did but I do wish now I had taken my Nanny's offer and gone to college and waited to get married. Especially when close friends told me 30 years later, after my divorce, they thought I married just to get out of the house. :-) The wildest thing I ever did in school??? Oh my gosh...really....my dad was a cop and I was dating a preacher's son. ME? Do something WILD? Not then folks. But should you ask about since I've remarried.... ;-) My Dad. He's my hero. Not only was he a good man, but he loved me and was a good parent to me. He's the parent I chose to follow. I only hope he can look down from Heaven above and smile on what I've become. I loved my Daddy. The person I'd most like to see again is Tommye Burk. (I think that's the Tommye I remember) And Phyllis Milner. And Royce Carr. And Doris Wagoner. hehe They probably know why I'd like to see them. There are a lot of other classmates I'd like to catch up with too...Linda Jackson who alw...Expand for more
ays sat behind me in classes...Karen Mercer so I could hear about Alaska. Oh dear...I hate to admit that I have a thing for the Real Housewives of NYC and sometimes the OC. I watch them, shaking my head the whole show thinking, how in the world can these women be so shallow and cruel to each other??? I guess I like the show because it proves that you can have money and live in a fancy home and be dripping diamonds but still be a low class rude and nasty person!!! My husband Steve and I have 3 little dogs that give us reason to smile each day. Sadie, the blonde, long hair chihuahua, loves Steve and has him so spoiled. He feels incomplete unless he allows her to sit on his chest or his shoulder when he's home. Kinda funny seeing a guy 6'6" with a 5lb dog sitting on his shoulder like a parrot. Zoey is a brindle Chinese Pug that has to sneak in time with Steve when Sadie isn't looking or else she gets the evil eye (and alligator teeth) treatment. But when she manages to get chest time, she falls fast asleep on her back and snores louder than Steve at times. The third one is Walter, king of the harem, ruler of the women. He keeps the girls in line. He is half chihuahua and shih tzu and was supposed to be little. Yearite. He's the biggest!!! We want our money back! Anyway, you can see we love our furbabies and treat them like the children we no longer have at home. At least we don't dress them up and push them around in a stroller! (yet) If I were to talk about my oldest friend, well, she would not be this person. But this person is the one that was closest to me, from the time I met her until life separated us after graduation. We remain in contact but Jill Hinds lives in California now and that's a long way from East Texas! I just knew her brother was playing a trick on me the first time I called her house - there was NO WAY that deep voice could have belonged to a GIRL!!! haha But I eventually got used to Jill's deep voice and we had some great times grades 9-12. I think this is enough of a story for now. My brain is tired from remembering so much! Maybe I'll come back sometime and write some more. Maybe someone will ask a question they want answered. Maybe I'll get drunk some night and decide to spill my guts. To be continued...??? (Don't hold your breath on that last one folks! ha)
