Marcus's Story
Life
I am a metalsmith. Methods of mixing wood and fabricated precious metal elements have been explored in my recent work. Creating a variety of looks and styles within these mixtures, I consider the harmonies between nature and man. Utilizing metal laminates, gold, silver, copper, brass and wood as a pallet, forms are created ranging from geometric to organic. The form of the tree as a primary symbol for nature has long been a focus of my work. The introduction of natural woods as precious objects to be cherished is a new and exciting aspect of current work.
Observation of nature has led to some of the finest understandings of mankind. It is by considering the majestic creation of nature and focusing on the contrast between organic and manmade creations that we can become aware. Through understandings of the nurturing relationship between nature and humanity we foster a renewed love of life itself.

STATEMENT OF CURRENT RESEARCH
I am creating a body of work based upon interaction of humanity and nature. This interaction has been the center of my work for a number of years. Currently I am developing organic forms which are fabricated out of metals, and focus on grace and elegance. By basing my pieces on organic forms, I simultaneously broach issues of simulacra, beauty of nature, and humanities creative grace. This work conveys aspects of my conviction regarding natureÂs harmony and its place in art. Through my work, I more specifically approach issues which relate to beliefs in nature and its capacity for simple truth.
