Margaret's Story
Life
(Look for me in Facebook! You can use the megaritaville at gmail dot com email address to find me the easiest. Facebook is free!) I'm married to Gene Smith (BCHS Class of 1974) for over 25 years. I attended my first UGA football game in 1978 --- and although we didn't start dating then (he was finishing college, and I was just a junior in high school), it was the first of many games for us over the years. Even though we had been to many games and events together prior to 1981, our first "official date" was to a GA/FL weekend in 1981, and we are still faithfully attending UGA games from Knoxville, Nashville, Columbia, and Auburn to Jacksonville, New Orleans/Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa and Atlanta. We have made tailgating in Tate/Boggs parking lots a family tradition, and our kids love the dawgs almost as much as we do!
We have two children: Patrick (age 14 / 9th grade) and Katie (age 13 / 8th grade). Our lives, as you might guess, mainly revolve around the kids and their activities. Patrick plays on his school's B-team (9th and 10th) football, dresses with varsity football, plays B-team and varsity basketball, and B-team baseball team, and although an 8th grader, Katie cheers for B-team and plays ...Expand for more
on her school's softball and basketball teams. It's a rare day and night that we are not at a game or shuttling taxi service to and from practices or workouts at the gym! I guess they got their love of the games naturally. I still miss playing for BCHS!
Presently, I am working part-time for the City of Americus - Main Street Office & substitute teaching, but I am thinking about going back to full-time teaching. I taught school at various places until Katie was about two... and when we moved from Alma, I did not continue teaching.
We live in Americus, and we have two pets --- A Yorkie named Taz (Patrick's dog) and a Westie named Buddy (Katie's dog). Santa lost his mind and brought them to the children in 2001! A lot changed that year, didn't it?
I've lost contact with almost all of my friends and former students from Alma (BCHS classmates as well as BCMS former students), Douglas (classmates from South GA College and students I taught at Nicholls), Statesboro (GSU School of Education), Athens (UGA), and Claxton (students, basketball players, and peer faculty). If any of you find a few minutes of time in your busy lives, please drop me an email! I'd love to hear from you! Take care! Margaret
