Margaret (Maggie)'s Story

Life Hey all! After spending five years at Purdue I moved out to Berkeley, CA. Stayed there for 7 years where I developed a love for the outdoors, environmental policy, and California geology. These days I'm living in Santa Rosa, CA, with my husband, Ethan, of 17 years, fifteen chickens, a cat, and our two teenage children,. We've moved from the 1920 tiny bungalow - yes, we did finish the restoration - into a 1951 mid-century modern. A lot of work to be done on the new place, but it's got a huge backyard and tons of potential. I'm still working as an engineering geologist for the State of California and am wrapping up my 22nd year in the position. I still do slope stability analyses (landslide evaluation) with respect to water quality protection (drinking water, endangered salmon) ...Expand for more
on the north coast of California in Redwood country. Ethan is now a Battalion Chief with CALFIRE and works in the south San Francisco Bay urban/wildland interface. He's been all over the state fighting fire and was here in our town in 2017 during the firestorm. Our teenagers are thriving - our oldest is a blossoming writer while our youngest has a love of painting. My brother, Brian, is now living Sonoma County, as well; it's good to have some family nearby. As I said before, it's nice to know there are people out there that understand "Shlaters", remember where the practice field was, how to get onto the school roof, horrible school lunches, as well as the football team playing Chatard, film literature, and photography/art with Tom Shafer. I hope everyone is doing well. Maggie
