Margaret's Story

Life I guess it's time for an update from me. On Dec. 23, 2005 my husband, Charles and I will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Actually, we will celebrate a couple of months early as our 3 kids and their families are planning an open house on Oct. 29. We still live in Groveland, IL a small town near Morton, IL where we have now lived for over 9 years. He is now retired (full-time, after almost 50 years in Christian ministry), while I now work about 30 hrs. per week as church secretary at the Christian church in Morton. It keeps me busy and involved with the "outside" world. I also play the piano for church at Morton part of the time, and the past 2 months have been filling in on Sundays at a small church in Pekin which was in need of a pianist. Besides our grandchildren, I also still enjoy my lifetime love of reading, listening to music, and what else--talking on the phone! Since Charles is an avid St.Louis Cardinal's fan, I have become one too over the years (if you can't beat 'em, join 'em). So during baseball season we watch lots of ballgames on tv. We have 3 children--all married, and now have 11 grand- children (the oldest is 26, married, through college and starting law school this fall; the youngest is just 3 and t...Expand for more
he rest are all ages in between). We enjoy visits from our family, who live in Kansas, So. Illinois and Wisconsin. We make trips to visit them, too, but with my work schedule it is easier to let them visit us most of the time. Charles stays busy with yard and garden work, and fishing in the little lake behind our house. He also does quite a few "honeydew" chores around the house to help me out. We belong to an "Empty Nesters" group at our church which makes frequent outings around the area, to eat out, visit places of interest, go to ball games, concerts, etc. It's a "jolly bunch" and lots of fun. Charles was diagnosed earlier this year with Parkinson's disease. He is responding well to the medication and so far it hasn't slowed him down any that I can tell. We don't know what's down the road in that regard, but are enjoying each day, and also sure that the Lord who has been with us through all our lives will continue to care for us and give us strength as we need it. I've come quite a way in my computer skills, but still don't always know how to find the things I want on the internet, or in sites like Classmates. I hope to hear from some of my old classmates and others from GHS who remember me. Margaret (Myers) Coonce
