Margery's Story

Life My husband and I live in Highland Beach, Florida which has the same zipcode as Boca Raton. It is a 3 mile barrier reef island ( on the ocean) with no industry at all. I am the Mom of 2 daughters and Grandma to 10!!!! I have lived in Florida since 1974. Over the years, I have been fortunate to travel a great deal to countries filled with glorious history and culture such as Africa, Russia (when it was still Communist), most of Europe etc. But, being the patriot that I am, I still find the USA the most beautiful and worthwhile to travel. I have gone cross country by car perhaps 3 or 4 times and never tire from the beauty that each state holds. This is the greatest country in the world. The National Parks and Four Corners ( Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado) are just about the most magnificant places to appreciate the beauty of the land and the people that make up the heart of America. I have had various careers from school teacher to office manager to computer programmer and found each to be interesting. After traveling so much and loving it so, the last few years I decided to "unretire" myself and become a travel agent. I have a great passion for travel as well as people so doing this brings both together. It is a good feeling to make others happy and what better way then planning their cruise or land vacation. For over 35 years I have collected Native American Indian pottery, rugs etc. It is one of my greatest passions. I have also been quite fortunate to visit and stay on the Indian Reservations in Arizona many times and have formed friendships with families on the Hopi Reservation. ging experience for me that has affected me deeply. I often think of Forest Hills and the wonderful years growing up with no fear to walk from Continental Avenue to Jahn,s ....then all of us walking home and dropping one friend off at a time. No worries of being attacked ever crossed our minds. I remember rehearsing with so much fun many school plays, cheerleading at Halsey and FHHS, changing clothes after school and hurrying back to the gym to "play sports" until 5 PM with Mrs. Brennan as the teacher in charge (in the winter months). When spring would arrive, everyone was out til 9PM playing squash, singing on benches like we were the next rock and rolls stars. We all were having down to earth healthy fun. Although I still do see a friend or two from those days gone by, most of the friendships I held dear then have long passed. But, I remember them vividly with great fondness and often wonder how some of my closest friends have experienced their lives. There was a special love for certain people that will always stir my heart. I only hope life has turned out well for all of us that grew up in a time of innocence and safety. WE sure did have great times growing up. We were a great group from freshman, sophmore, junior to senior. We were one big happy family. How can one not miss those times? Luvelee lipstick, sharing clothes, gossiping about one guy or another, parties galore, our first Easter break in Florida WITHOUT parents, wondering what the point was of taking chemistry or learning Shakespeare from Mrs. Holland at Halsey (in the 7th grade!!!!!) I think all of us are the chosen people. We had great times didn't we?
