Margie's Story

Life For those of you from California High School in Whittier where I graduated, does anyone know where Bill and Pam Opperman are? My husband Tom McKinnon and I (we were both McKinnon's when we met on a genealogy web site - I had legally changed my name to my grandmother's maiden name - and were married in Scotland in 2000) are both retired, live near Sedona, AZ, have 14 grandkids and 2 great-grands (all living in the LA area so we're out there a lot. My oldest daughter, Cathy is a two time Emmy winner, my second daughter, Tammie spend 15 years as a Psych tech at a hospital for the criminally insane (she had some Oh My God! stories to tell at family gatherings), my son was an officer on the LAPD for 15 years, was officer of the year in 1998 and is now working for the State Dept. as an employee of Dyncorp training Afghanistan police on the use of weaponry (his cop stories were pretty good too), my youngest daughter Teri is an RN in a the ER dept. of a hospital (her stories aren't bad). Cathy said the only story she can share is the time she worked out at the Warner Bros. gym with Clint Eastwood. We all voted on Tammie's stories being the best. I'm the founder of a movement for victims of child sexual abuse called the Lamplighters. We have 40 chapters in 6 countries. I developed a program/wrote a book called REPAIR Your Life: A Program for Recovery from Incest and Childhood Sexual. It was bought by Loving Healing Press and released in April, 2008. I recently finished the children's version, REPAIR For Kids: A Children's Program for Recovery for Incest and Childhood Sexual Abuse and Tom did the interior illustrations. Both are currently available on any book distributor...Expand for more
website such as amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com. Recently sold two more books: REPAIR For Toddlers and It's Your Choice!Decisions That Will Change Your Life. They'll be out before the end of this year. Let me know if you know anyone that wants to start a chapter. It's so easy and costs nothing. I've completed 12 books in the last few years, 5 fiction, 5 on recovery from child sexual abuse and 2 non-fiction plus 5 volumes of poetry and am now trying to find an agent to sell them (and also working on 3 new books) If I'd known life was going to turn out this good I would have started it sooner. Not sure anyone will even remember me. I was the homely kid with crooked teeth, no self-confidence, and looked like a concentration camp victim. I came from Petersburg, NE after my sophmore year and the kids at California High all scared the devil out of me. I couldn't walk barefoot from one end of town to the other, had no rivers to swim in in the summer and ice skate on in the winter and I had no idea what a taco, an enchilla or pizza was so I was one miserably homesick kid as my love for Petersburg bordered on an obsession. It still remains the finest place I know. I guess you can't take the girl out of the country is true. But I had some great teachers at Cal Hi, Mr. Olson in Biology, Mr. Chabaton in Chemistry and especially Scott Coulter in Music. I often wonder what happened to Michelle Flaherty who was our best ever singer. My brother Scott and I were in Madrigals. He lives in Tucson now and is a handsome bachelor. You probably now know more about me than my son-in-laws do so I won't bore you anymore. Hope everyone is as happy as I am. Margie (formerly Leick) McKinnon
