Margo's Story

My classmates will remember me as "Margie," my nickname since childhood. (I'm quite positive I was the only one graduating from John Glenn in 1966 with that name.) When I turned 21 years of age, I wanted an easy and more grown up name so I chose the name of "Margo." I loved our Happy Days at John Glenn High School as head cheer leader and was so excited to be voted Homecoming Queen! No one knows any of this about me in my current life because there are so many other real issues to deal with, right?...Like growing old! A long journey and a happy life for me to end up in Yucca Valley, California, about 30 minutes from Palm Springs, married to my best friend of 42 years! What is the most surprising thing is that several classmates live in Yucca Valley too! They are: Tom Moore, Bob Wagner, Jim Martin (who married Diane Martin from Excelsior High), and Arthur Popp who recently passed away before I knew he moved here. I haven't seen Tom but Jim told me he was living here for a time. Bob Wagner is the pastor at Joshua Springs Calvary Chapel where Jim, Diane and I worship. I am very involved in local politics in my small community of 20,700 and some call me an political activist. I prefer to think of myself as a watch dog or citizen advocate. Having attended several town council meetings and water board meetings for over 5 years...and reading the full agen...Expand for more
da packets, I am very well informed of the players and the political history of Yucca Valley. I am a contributor on a local political blog called Cactus Thorns covering the West end of town, Yucca Valley. Some of the posts on Cactus Thorns have over 33,000 hits as there are readers from around the globe popping in. Just Google Margo Sturges + Cactus Thorns for my posts. There are a few classmates that I would like to say hello to...Marie Harismendy, Betty Guerrero, Mike Campanile, Richard Barbera, Herb Hatanaka, Larry Ramirez, Carol Atkins, Jeannie Postmas, Sue Sims, Dan Fukishima,Tom Moore, Jim Voss, Dick Shaw and...hmmmm, I will come back to name the others when my memory kicks in...just wanted to say thanks to all of you for the wonderful high school memories and I remember your kindness to this day. All of you have shaped the person I have become today and I know today's youth will never know the carefree life we all shared back then. Please know that I am very happy to have landed in this small rural community at 3,500 altitude, known for beautiful dark skies, sunny days and the gateway to Joshua Tree National Park. I can be reached at MargoSturges (dot)com and look forward to another chapter in our lives. Sincerely, Margo PS. It's okay to call me "Margie," because my Dad still does, everyone in the past 45 years know me as Margo Sturges.
