Mariann's Story

Dear High School Friends: I did not graduate in 1971, but that was the class I went through most of my high school time with. I took the GED in 1969. In those days if you could pass it you could end your high school time and move on to college. I then went to work for the Federal Government and that took me all over the world. I lived in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and many other Far Eastern, Asian, and European countries. It is hard to believe that over 40 years has passed since high school. At present I have a home in Stewartstown, PA. I only had one daughter, Mary Grace, and she lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and their two daughters. My dad lives with us and he was 89 on 02/28/2010, which is also my daughter's birthday and she will be 39, but I didn't tell you that! But, my beloved mother ended her journey on earth on 11/18/2006. She and my father were married over 60 years before her passing. They were truly an example of what a good marriage should be. Well, when I was cleaning their house out, after her passing, I found the only thing that survived my younger years. You guessed it, my 1969 Westminster High School Yearbook. I never knew she kept it, as I had lost everything in a fire, prior to 1986! I looked through it and read the "autographs" so many of my friends wrote to me. So many good, funny and stupid things came back to me. I then decided to do ...Expand for more
some research and try to find some of my oldest friends, that time and circumstances had kept out of my thoughts. Anyway, I knew a lot of people older than myself, by quite a few years, and also quite a few friends younger that me. I don't know how this works, but I have their names and will go from there. I think the thing that would surpise most of the people, that were my "real" friends, was that I survived at all. Those were some wild and crazy times, for a lot of reasons. I lost a lot of good friends in the wars. Personally, I hope some of those old friends remember me and some of the darn good times we had. I pretty much grew up and matured real fast after I left Westminster. Then began my life's journey around the world and back again. Nowadays, I am considered just a plain old countrygirl who gardens, takes care of my elders, and lives for my family, although, I have always had dogs as my best friends. Right now I have three named Gracie, Precious and Cuddles. They, next to my husband, are my pride and joy. I hope and pray some of you will remember me and/or know what happened to some of the others. I hope as I meet my fellow students that they remember some of our antics with a smile on their face. I always wanted to be an aviation mechanic when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was an outlandish and unladylike quest at the time. As it turns out, they were wrong.
