Marianne's Story

Graduated from high school and went to work. In 1972 I married Joe who was stationed in Bermuda with the Navy. Got a 2 year honeymoon on the "The Rock", as we affectionately called it. There we had our son Michael on New Years Eve 1973. We transferred to Jacksonville Florida in 1974. In 1976 we had our daughter Angela. In 1977, Joe joined the submarine force and we were transferred to Groton CT. That is were I had to really grew up and become independent. We moved into navy housing while Joe was at sea. Joe was at sea when both children started their first day of school. I learned to fix cars, do my own plumbing, be mom and dad at the same time and instantly turn the reins back over to Joe when the boat pulled in. The best years of my life so far were spent as a Navy Wife. I have many wonderful memories of time spent with my children and other boat wives at the beaches, drive-ins, school functions, cub scout meetings, gymnastic classes and each others homes making the best of life without dads. The best memories were waiting for buses and boats to come in. There is nothing more beautiful than a submarine coming in up the Thames River! Many times I would stand at the rail of the submarine memorial watching the boat come in and then race to the pier to watch the ropes thrown over, it was wonderful! I still get tears in my eyes watching a military homecoming on the news. My children still keep in touch with a great many friends they made in Groton. We are one of the few families that spent 14 straight years there! But all good things must come to an end, so in 1992, Joe turned in hie retirement papers. mmand Ombudsman. Our whole family was recognized for our support of the Submarine way of life. Our Michael graduated in June 1992 from Fitch Sr. High School and came back to Buffalo in July. I spent 2 months trying to get our daughter into the Buffalo Public Schools. Finally she was accepted into Buffalo Traditional where she graduated #7 in her senior class in 1993. Michael married on July 4, 1996, moved to Canandagiua with his lovely wife and latter blessed us with 2 beautiful grand children. Our Angela continued on for her Associated in Business and met a wonderful man from Tennessee whom she married in 2003. She and her husband now live in Knoxville and are expecting their son on April 4, 2009. Joe is a Secretary I for the Communication Department of Buffalo State College. I am the Administrative Assistant at JIT Toyota Lift in West Seneca. We have a 100 year old house in South Buffalo that we love, but it is way too big for us! We manage to keep it full with my passion of rescued greyhounds. For the last 16 years I have been a foster homer for retired racers. Over the years 6 have found forever homes with us. We are down to 1 greyhound, but have a 2 year old rescued coon hound, 7 year old bi-polar beagle and 3 rescued cats along with 4 cockatiels and a Blue & Gold Macaw. Joe has his cabin in Cherry Creek, NY were he escapes whenever possible! The Coon Hound, Harley, goes with him! I get out there as often as possible in the nicer weather with the other dogs. ( I have a passion for target shooting!) Our dream is to retire out there unless we get a chance to escape NY and head south! I would love to connect with old friends and maybe become friends with old classmates! Bless you all!!
