Marie's Story
I am Marie Green and my maiden name is Ballou. I was born and grew up in Long Beach, California. I got married six months after I graduated from high school. I had two children from my first marriage of 12 yrs, I then moved to Westminster, in Orange County, CA. After my divorce, I moved to Enid, Oklahoma where my older brother lived. I lived in Oklahoma until I married Gerald Green and became an army wife. We did a tour in Germany for three years after which we returned to Lawton, Oklahoma. Gerald and I have been married 30 years and still going. We adopted a baby boy,who is our third child. We were able to bring him home from the hospital after he was born. We have had a good life and traveled while in Germany all over Europe. When Gerald (Jerry) retired from the Army, we then moved to Tacoma, Washington. We have been living here since 1987. We bought a house in Spanaway, Washington, where we live now. I worked throughout the years as a secretary/word processor. While Jerry was active duty, I worked at federal civil service jobs near post. Now my husband is also retired from Madigan Army Hospital where he worked until he retired from that job as a Cook. I have had many good experiences throughout life raising our three children, working, being part of cub scouts and sports with our youngest son and grandson,summer activities with the cub scouts (families included). Jerry and I both enjoyed being involved in scouts as assistant leaders. I must say that I have had a good life and now that I am getting older it seems like the time just goes by even faster. This is kind of a glimpse of my life, and I have been blessed with seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Of course our youngest son is 26, and has a really nice fiance that he met when they were 15 years old. They are both attending college right now, and are planning on getting married in the near future, so I think it will be a while before they start their family. I like reading, music and crocheting. I also enjoy learning new skills every day on my computer i.e., face book, email and looking for new information on-line. I just got a cell phone that I really enjoy using; this new technology is something else. My son is going to show me how to put pictures on my face book. Well I will conclude this story of my life and interests. I am excited about learning of our 50th year reunion in 2014, God willing my husband and I will be able to attend. It should be a blast.
