Gary's Story

Updated Feb, 2015 Hi everyone... where have I been for the last 54 years..? It doesn't seen like than long ago, but time has a way of getting away from one... I graduated from AHS in 1961, way back when AHS was still in Artesia..! Actually, I almost graduated in 1961. I was injured in a hunting accident in my senior year, and missed several months of school. I came back in time to finish the year, and went through the graduation ceremony, but was short on credits to graduate. I went to Cerritos College for one year, then moved to Fullerton and attended FJC for a couple of years, while working full time in a Speed Shop. I was more of a "Car guy" during HS, and stayed in that field for the remainder of my working years. I returned to Fullerton HS night school for a couple of years to make up my missing HS credits, and finally graduated from HS from Fullerton HS in 1965. I worked in auto related business' for the next number of years, a speed shop, an auto parts store, and finally went to work for Rossmoor Corporation as a mechanic, and later Fleet Supervisor, where I remained for ten years. When that company was sold, I worked for an independent garage, then a GM dealership for a while, which gave me the opportunity to look for a real job. I missed those great government benefits...! In 1985, I went to work for the City of Placentia as a mechanic, where I remained for the next 20 plus years, the last sixteen years as the Fleet Supervisor. From '62 until '89, I lived in Fullerton, buying and selling several different homes as I worked a Real Estate side line. In '89, we purchased a new home in the hills of Yor...Expand for more
ba Linda. We lived there until we both retired in 2005, and moved to Apple Valley California, where we remain today. I married when I was 30, but I still wasn't done partying, so five years later I was single again. I proved "The first one is just for practice..!!" I met and married the perfect lady in 1985, and we are still living happily ever after. I have one step daughter who was 12 when I met her mother. She will be 45 in a few next months, and we are best friends. My one regret in life is not pursuing more education. I have been very successful career wise, and retired very financially secure, but I really wish I would have applied myself more during my school years. I may not have made any more money with a degree, but I'm sure I wouldn't have had to work so hard to get where I am..! My mother, both sisters, and my brother all attained Master's degrees, For some reason I went the other way. I never took much interest in school, and didn't find out I could actually get A's until I was 40..! I attended numerous colleges and trade schools all during my career, to keep current in my chosen field. I discovered that, when the interest was there, and I worked hard at it, I was a really good student..! First thing I did when I retired was to sign up for classes at the local college..! Talk about doing things backwards..! That is a quick snapshot of my life after AHS. If anyone remembers me and would like to say hello, I would love to hear from you. I'm easy to find..... I put my email address in, but discovered Classmates didn't like that, so contact me in Classmates.... Gary
