Marifrances's Story
Technical writer, technical illustrator, still in school, artist, underemployed.
I am married, have 3 children and 1 grand daughter, and 3 dogs. I provide sustenance for 16 very tame, yet legally feral, cats.
After leaving Wahconah I was put in a high school in Milwaukee. I compared everything there to Wahconah. The new school scored miserably.
I hated Shorewood High and walked out as soon as I had enough credits.
I have a BS degree in pre-med and art from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee. By the last semester I was informed that I had taken so many art classes that with one more credit I could be an art major too. So I wrote a paper about how the Black Plague changed the European Art Scene. Very interesting.
Many years, three children, and two husbands later I received an associate's degree in electronics engineering. Since then I have taken another 150 credits from a fine local technical college. Lots of classes in graphic design, web design, and mechanical drawing.
I have been a drifting contractor for 7 years, searching high and low for a "real" job. I sell myself as a technical writer, technical illustrator, web designer, and regulatory specialist - specializing in the establishment of design control ...Expand for more
procedures as mandated by the FDA for medical devices. All of that work I really enjoy.
Recently I have been plagued with regret that I did not attend medical school. For sure I would now be employed and I making the world a less painful place.
I have made award winning clay animals and am urged by my heart to get back to it. There is clay on the kitchen table, a testament to my first step in that direction. Right now I am helping a medical device company change their labeling (a federally regulated activity) to reflect both a name change and an address change. I am employing about 10% of my skill set so I am also listening to books while I work. The next set of CDs that is on my desk is a dubiously entitled "History of the World". I'll learn something to entertain and amaze my friends.
If you are interested, I am in FaceBook, but I say little until I am offered a job by some lucky organization ;-). I have an online resume site where you can see some graphic designs, web designs and a link to a site with my clay animals. (marifran.com)
I joined Classmates.com because there are a few people who I think of often and hope they will contact me. I have lived in the Madison,WI area for the last few decades.
