Marilyn's Story
Life
I am Marilyn Eccles (formerly at 17 Hancock Place, Iselin). I started working at AT&T in Sept. 1972 and in early 1998 AT&T offered an early retirement incentive. At 45, I qualified with 26 years of service and I decided to take the offer effective June 1998.. I was married in 1973, bought my first house in 1974, and got divorced in 1975. I also came out in 1975. In 1980 I received my Associates Degree from Thomas Edison College. In 1981 my dad passed away. In 1985 I bought another house in Martinsville. In 1988 I graduated from Rutgers with a BA in Psychology. In 1997 I met Cindy, the love of my life, on October 5 at the Heritage Festival in Holmdel. Although I knew I wanted to retire early I wasn't ready to stop working so I applied at Bell Core (now Tel...Expand for more
cordia) and was hired as a Senior Project Manager July 1998. On December 28, 1998 I was diagnosed with Chronic Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. In November, 1999 we bought this house in Sidney, Maine. On December 4, 1999 I stopped working altogether. In February 2000 we moved here to our new house. We are on Messalonskee Lake. The view is gorgeous. The people are friendly and few. There is relatively no traffic. The summers are cool and refreshing. And, we haven't been able to find any stress yet.
I've participated in the MS bicycle fund raising tour in both NJ and Maine on my moped. Next year I think I'll try my bicycle as far as I can go. Wish me luck! I'll let you know how I do in August when I see you all. All donations to NMSS gratefully accepted.
