Marilyn's Story
Unfortunately, I was a country girl who moved to the big city and had to attend Smiley Junion High where most of the people there went to East High. When I went over to South High School, I was still a "farm " girl and for the most part was treated like I had the plague. I had few friends and we were so poor that I oould not join any club or participate in any after school programs. The only people I remember were the Manspeaker boys, JoAnne Carter, John Shandy, Elaine Hahn and a few that I can remember first names only. I did marry a young man who had graduated from South in 1957. His name is Dale Birkby and he was #26 on the South High School Football team. He was also on the Cross-Country Track team. Wish I had a better experience in School but when you don't fit in, you lose.

ghter did not go to college but has a very good job in Jacksonville, FL working as the supervisor of Accounts Receiable at Mac Papers. She is married but has no children.
Dale became a Plumber's Apprentice and completed his training, becoming a Master Plumber in the 70's. He retired in 1998 and has enjoyed every minute of his retirement. I worked for the Treasury and the Department of Revenue as an Administrative Assistant to the Manager of Revenue for the City and County of Denver and retired in 1998 as well. We now love to travel in our Motor Home. Spent 3 months in Alaska and 3 months in the Maritime Provinces, plus have been to every state except Hawaii. I spend my spare time as a semi-professional Genealogist and as a volunteer for FindAGrave.com. I am also indexing the two cemeteries in my home town of McDonald, Kansas. Sorry my time at South High School was a very unpleasant experience, but the rest of my life has been wonderful.
