Marilynn's Story

Life Where was I from 1957 until 1969 ? I married right out of high school., I graduated January of 1957, married May 1957 and I had my first child, a son the end of December. He was a twin, the other didn't survive, he died earlier in my pregnancy causing the surviving twin to come prematurely. His name is Barry and was two months premature. I had my second child a girl 10 months later, she was just three days short of two months early, Her name is Vicki. I spent the next years being a busy mother. I got involved in activities that concerned my children. Barry played little league and was active in Boy Scouts, Vicki joined Camp Fire Girls. Since my husband didn't get involved, I helped with the boy scouts, and I was a leader of a Camp Fire Group. From Blue Birds to Horizon Club. Barry earned his Eagle Scout scout, and had the work on his clusters done, when he decided to quit. He had been Senior Patrol Leader for quite some time and just wanted to quit. As for Camp Fire, my group helped out at camp outs and training sessions, they loved working at day camp teaching the younger girls. Vicki ended up earning the WoHeLo Madallion, the highest honor a girl can earn I worked at the Fruitridge Elementary school in the office helping get out with the school newspaper, the beginning reading program, and was a room motherfor both of my children and sometimes other children's when they didn't have a room mother, all through their grammer school years at Fruitridge Elementary.. When they moved on to Jr.High, I moved on also, that is when I went to work at Luther Senior High Burbank. I always loved working with children. So I always got involved. My husband and I separated the summer of 1981 and divorced later in the year. After I begin a new life, I had a lot of fun and meet a lot of new people, by my own choice. And got reaquainted with some old friends. Janurary 14, 1983, I met the man I was to marry. He was a long tall fella on a Harley Davidson. We married April 14, 1985 in a formal wedding in Reno. We traveled with a motorcycle club all over California. We later helped form a motorcycle club that was just Harley riders. It is known as the "For Harleys Only Motorcycle Club."When I turned fifty I decided that I wanted to learn to ride.My husband first bought me a motor scooter to start with, then I got a 1985 Honda Rebel, I joined a riders class, after passing the class, I got my motorcycle license on the Rebel. I then went to another bike a little larger. Then I finally got my own Harley later, It was a 1986 Harley Custom Sportster with wire wheels, we fixed it up and I use to ride it to school. The students loved it, I think almost as much as I did. It was a really fun time When I got hurt in 1989,I was sent for rehabilitation, it didn't work for,me. They had me going to school night and day. I wasn't well enough and ended up in the hospital with an asthma attack, I almost died. I had to give up riding.I couldn't do it anymore. Then I also had to give up my job, that was the hardest of all ,since I loved it there, the young people, they came first with me and there were some really special adults there also. Since then I have been trying to get well and am still not giving up.Since 1998, I am helping raise my daughter's little girl, Christina. She is a small little love and I really enjoy her. I also have grandchildren from my son, he has three, a son and then two daughters and just a few years ago, gained twins, a girl and a boy by way of the heart, he married their mother Kim .The twins were ten when Barry and Kim go together, that was in 2000, His son just made him a grandfather this last April 24th, a boy named Bryce.. His eldest daughter Lisa, got married two years ago, his Next to the youngest daughter, Chelsea, is just finishing her first year of college. The twins are beginning their senior year this fall. I am hoping to volunteer over at Christina's school this next fall. I worked over there during Christina's kindergarten year and loved working over there. Her teacher was a joy to work with, she has asked me back several times, but I was unable to.I am working on trying to get back my health. I am attending a class and getting shots in my neck and back, hopefully this will work (It didn't, not the thing to do) Workplace , I worked at Luther Burbank from fall of 1969 until fall of 1989.The first year, I worked supervising students in the cafeteria at lunch time. THe fall of 970 I joined Mrs. White out in the halls and also warked helping in the attendance office. The following year, Mrs. White and I worked out in the halls all the time. Then the following year, 1972, we were joined in the hall by Mrs. Lois Hosking. That was around the time she and I got nicknames that tuck from that day til this. My name at that time was Mrs. Marilynn Chamberlain, but I was commonly referred to as Starsky and Mrs.Hosking was referred to as Hutch, After the Starky and Hutch of the TV series. They always commented that they could imagine me drinving Starsky's red tomato it was...Expand for more
red with a custom white stripe from the door on on side just over the the top, to the back of the other door. My husband at that time, was into cutomizing the cars we owned so it wasn't to surprising that they would think that. My husband and I divorced in 1981. I met the man who I later married, January 14, 1983. The students loved him, he had a Harley Davidson and would pick me up from work sometimes. He would always take the time to show them the motorcycle and answer questions, unlike my ex who couldn't be bothered. He was into hot cars and wasn't interestied in the students. What was even more intereting is when Mick came with a friend or two, then they would be surround by the students, they always took time to talk to the kids and explain what was on their bikes (motorcycles) I retired in 1991, I was injured on the job and was sent for treatment and rehab, but none of it worked and I couldn't go back to the jobe that I loved, I didn't make much money, but the students more then made up for that. I wouldn't change a moment of the time I spent with them. They always came first with me I was a lot quieter then most people though I was, my hero was my cousin Neva, She died a couple of years ago. I really miss her, we could talk about anything to each other. She was the sister that I never had and a trusted friend who was always there for me. I was the same with her. When she needed someone to share with or just to listen, I was there for her.She could always make me laugh and I could always get a laugh and a smile out of her. I always thought of her as a gift , given to me, and she was. As for sports, I love basketball. Actually, I am a basketball nut. I have my husband, Mick in stitches, because I get so involved in the game. I haven't ever gotten really into going to the games, I prefer watching them on TV, it isn't so crowded and I can get as opinionated, loudly, as I want to. I use to volunteer to work some of the games where I worked. I also use to work dances with some of my friends so they could have dances. The clubs needed people who would work so they could have a fund raiser. It wasn't for pay, I liked doing it for the kids and my friends felt the same way. I miss doing these things. I have always loved helping out, so they could do things Working with them was the thing that I miss most. They knew that I would always be there for them, I would always listen and give them that hug they needed sometimes. They would always give me a smile and I would know that things were O.K. with them. THE YEAR 2011 Here I am again, with an update. I am just recovering from back surgery, it was the last thing that I could do. If I hadn't my back would have gotten worse,. IIt was bad enough as it was. So, I went with it, I had surgery July 26,2011, just over four weeks ago. I still have about another month to go until I am released from the doctor, but am hoping to go to out patient theraphy, to build my body up and strengthen it as much a possible. The surgery was an success, I will still have some pain, but nothing compared to what I was having. As for other nows, My eldest Grand son Bryan, his wife Elisa and their son Bryce moved back to California from Tennessee. They are now living in Twain Harte and my eldest Grand daughter Lisa, is newly divorced and is also living in Twain Harte, it is really beautiful up there, just east of Sonora. Bryce turned four in April ,we were all there for his birthday. He started preschool and goes a couple of days a week. This fall he will be going all day. As for Chelsea and the Twins Jon and Sammi, they are all getting ready to graduate from College. Chelsea and Jon want to be high school teachers and Sammi, she is going into nursing. Chelsea and Jon will probably be student teaching this fall and Sammi worked at Sutter General last spring and will be student nursing somewhere' else this fall. That is all the news about Barry my son's, children. As for my daughter Vicki's daughter Christina. She is starting the 8 th grade at Fern Bacon this fall and will be a student aide in a Anami class this year. She is really into that type of Art and has won prizes at two of the conventions that they have held here at the convention center.for her art. As for me, I am the same as always, I still miss working at Burbank and the kids, but I run into some every so often and really enjoy seeing and talking to them. Believe it or not they still remember me, and I remember them, not always the names, but always the faces I started out-patient therapy September 7th at Kaiser Sounth Sacramento, I go ever two weeks, I will be going on my third visit this next week October 5th. My Therapist is pleased with how I am doing, but keeps reminding me that I am still healing and that it takes time to get where I want to be. SMILE. I really like him, he has worked with young people and has the same feelings as I have about them
