I've been blessed to visit all the major US cities, all 50 States, all 5 Great Lakes, 3 of 4 Oceans, 6 of 7 Continents, 43 countries with 157 to go. If it has a beach and a 5 star hotel, I am game to go. My near term to-do list: Fiji, NZ, Antarctica & Russia. My Bio:
Mario was born in Atlanta, GA. Upon completion of Therrell High School, he attended a one year program at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, RI. From there he entered the U. S. Naval Academy, in Annapolis, MD under a full $100,000 scholarship. Outside of intense academics, Mario received preliminary training that included actively piloting planes, helicopters, submarines and ships. His two summer training cruises to the Mediterranean Sea included various port visits in Spain, France and Italy. In 1985 he graduated from the Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. He received his degree from President Reagan.
He completed temporary assignments aboard the aircraft carrier USS RANGER (CV-61) and the Surface Warfare Division Officer School in San Diego, CA. Next, he reported to his first tour of duty aboard the aircraft...Expand for more
carrier USS CARL VINSON (CVN –70), in San Francisco/Alameda, CA. While serving as the Communication / Radio Division Officer and the Air Transfer Officer, he earned his Surface Warfare Officer qualifications. At the youthful age of 24, his qualifications authorized him to direct the $4 billion ship and the 13 surrounding ships in the Battlegroup. Mario also took on additional duties. In his capacity as the Public Affairs Officer, he met and/or coordinated visits with many VIPs, such as singer Pearl Bailey, actor Tom Cruise, pro football player Roger Staubach, author Steve Coontz, and reporter David Hartman.
After early selection to be a Department Head, Mario was selected for another full scholarship to graduate school. He attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. There Mario made the Deans list and graduated in 1991 with a Master’s degree in Management.
Next he attended Department Head School and the Tactical Action Officer Training Course in Newport, RI. There he had intense warfare training, such as, how to employ advance weapon systems like the Tomahawk and the Harpoon cruise missiles (Nuclear & conventional). From there, Mario reported to the USS KIRK (FF-1087), in Long Beach, CA, as the Operation Officer. As the third most senior officer, he deployed to the Indian Ocean as a part of Operation Desert Storm, Southern Watch. Later, as the USS KIRK was being decommissioned, Mario served as the acting Safety Officer at Commander Destroyer Squadron NINE.
While stationed in California for 8 years, he deployed three times for 6-month cruises to the Western Pacific and the Indian Ocean. His port visits included South Korea (2), Philippines (3), Singapore (2), Kenya (2), Australia, Thailand, Taiwan, China (3), Oman, Japan, Bahrain (2), Saudi Arabia, Diego Giacia (2), Hawaii (6).
Mario’s last tour was with the Navy’s Civil Engineers (Seabees) at Virginia Beach, VA. There he participated in two major joint military exercises in Puerto Rico and Panama. While on the East Coast he also toured Ireland, Germany (2), Switzerland (2), Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Austria (2), England (3), Belgium, Bermuda, Aruba, Bahamas (3), Half Moon Cay, South Africa, Senegal, Brazil and the Vatican.
Mario joined the civilian community working for the country’s largest receivable company as the Director of Operations for three major divisions. His team of 95+ employees was the number one office in the company.
Mario later became the Sr. Director, Client Support Services for a Software Company, with a global department of 150+ employees that include technical and non-technical consultants.
Mario is a proud father of two adult children, son Mario II (25) who attends the US Merchant Marine Academy, King Point, NY and daughter, Michelle (22) who is currently at the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD.".
