Marion Bottomley:

CLASS OF 1970
Beaconsfield, QC

Marion's Story

I attended grade 12 in Monreal, then Marianopolis College where in 1972 I met Derek Bottomley from Westmount & Ste Adele. Derek and I were married in 1974 in Ste Agathe and we lived there for a few years before moving to Niagara where we've been for almost 29 years (but with 3 house moves while here). We are still together and happy about it. We have 3 children: Crispin 28, Ian 25, and Melissa 23. We are the grandparents of Nia, born in April 2007 and Ethan, born March 2009, to Ian and his wife Michele who live in the NWT where our son is a pilot. Melissa is attending university for a degree in Criminal Justice. She comes home for the holidays and to work in the summer months. Crispin has 2 degrees & is office manager for Niagara Classic Cabs and works part time for the Niagara Parks Commission. He lives in Niagara and is a volunteer fire fighter, a member of Search & Rescue, and on several Boards locally. Derek was a volunteer firefighter for 15 years. He works fulltime and is involved in photography and CIM. I am on our church's altar guild and a member of the ACW. I've sat on the parent councils of every school my children have attended. And I've volunteered with a seniors health centre. For a couple of years I cared for my mother, who lived with us as my father couldn't look after her. My parents both passed away in March 1995, of separate causes. Derek and I have done some traveling together: Ireland, France, Holland, & Australia ...Expand for more
with multiple visits to London and also Scotland where Derek has family. We've been to BC to visit his parents several times, they moved there prior to our wedding. And we have been up to the Northwest Territories five times so far ... Derek has also been to Thailand, Turkey, Hong Kong and New Zealand. We passed our love of travel on to our children. Melissa took 3 1/2 months before starting university and back packed in Australia and New Zealand with a stopover in Hong Kong. She has been to France for 3 1/2 weeks, and was on two school trips over to Europe. Ian was to Costa Rica, Bermuda, Mexico, Scotland and England. He looks forward to future travel with Michele when they have the time and money. Presntly he is flying around the NWT. Crispin has been to Bermuda, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, and Germany, as well as spending a a month traveling in Australia at 21 and a month in China two years ago. I'm fortunate in that I was able to remain home while my children were growing up and only in the last few years have I returned to work. My job is with a company that supplies the greenhouse industry so I work through the fall and winter - how perfect is that? My life is not particularly exciting but neither is it boring. I'm very happy with it. I hope everyone else is happy with theirs too and enjoying it in good health. Debbie Cameron I'd love to hear from you & know how you are! I've thought about you through all of these years.
