Marjorie's Story

After graduating from Roosevelt in 1964, I went to work for Prudential Insurance Company for two years. In the summer of 1966, I went back to Connecticut where I was born, thinking I would like to live there again. I stayed for two months and decided California was where I wanted to be. I met my future husband in the fall of '66. He was a student at Fresno State. We were married in '67 and our first daughter was born in 1968. We moved to Tranquillity, Ca., where my husband taught and coached at the high school. I began college in 1970, graduating in '74. At that time I was pregnant with our second daughter. In the summer of '75, we moved our family to southern Idaho. We built our home in '76. We had two more beautiful daughters, one in '77 and the last in '80. I was a stay-at-home mom until 1982, when I went to work as a reading aide. In 1987, I finally began my teaching career, spending the next 16 years in the first grade. In 2003, my husband and I retired from education due to some health problems. We now spend most of the year in Idaho as his mom and mine are both in their 90's. We have added four wonderful sons-in-law to our family and seven adorable grandchildren ranging in age from 11 months to 11 years. In the summer, we go to our cabin near Glacier Bay, Alaska to fish and enjoy all the wonderful wildlife and beauty there. We try to spend three weeks in California visiting relatives and friends in the spring. I love photography, music (oldies, some country, gospel, pop and classical, watching good movies, traveling, camping and any time spent with family and friends. August, 2011 As I was looking over my profile, I realized I needed to update some information. We now have eight beautiful grandchildren ranging in age from 10 months to 13 years. They are so much fun and live only a few hours away. This summer we were fortunate enough to have two of our daughters and their families visit us in Alaska. We are home now and just celebrated with my mother on her 94th birthday. My husband's mother turned 95 earlier this month. What a blessing they are. The last two winters we have traveled to Arizona for a couple of months. It is so nice to get away from the cold and wind in Idaho. We are enjoying good health at the moment and are thankful for that. Hope life is good for you, too. July 7, 2012 This spring and summer have been filled with doctor and therapy visits. Marvin's mother was diagnosed with liver failure in April and passed away June 22. We will miss her so much, but know she is in a better place. She was 95. Marvin had rotator cuff surgery on May 30th and is undergoing therapy three times a week. We are usually in Alaska this time of the year and we are really feeling the temperatures in the 90's. We're hoping to go up early in August, depending on what Marvin's doctor says. We have enjoyed spending more time with our kids and grand kids. Hope you all are having a good summer. Well, we made to Alaska on July 30th, with our daughter and two grand kids. Had a little trouble getting the water and electric up and running, but everything is working well now. nshine and tons of rain, however we're not complaining as it was so hot and dry at home. We're going fishing for the first time today and hoping to see a few whales before the kids have to leave on Thursday. Don't know if we'll be here until the middle of Sept. if it keeps raining like this. Never satisfied! December 2012 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone. January 2013 The weather here in southern Idaho has been brutal this month. It snowed Christmas night and then again a week later, with temperatures plunging into the single digits at night and teens in the daytime. Sure would love to see this snow/ice melt. This is rather unusual - don't remember it being this cold for this long in the 37 years we've lived here. It's actually much warmer (in the 30's) at our cabin in Alaska. Weird winter! April, 2013 We're spending time camping near Sonora, Ca., visiting friends. The weather has been cool, but supposed to warm up soon. We'll be moving to Lake McClure to camp next week. April 21, 2013 Had a wonderful time with friends in California, but glad to be home. Such a beautiful state, but too many people, too much traffic and lots of crazy drivers. Maybe I'm just getting "too" old. December 23, 2013 Before things get really hectic around here, I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Our four daughters, four sons-in-law and eight grand kids will be here for the holidays. It gets very noisy at times, but it's good noise. The time goes by so fast I have to savor every moment. May the new year be a blessed one for you and your family. April, 2014 After a two month stay in Arizona enjoying warm, sunny days, we are back in Idaho where we had snow, rain, sleet and sunshine today. Normal spring whether for Idaho. We enjoyed a week with our kids and grand kids during spring break. We'll be leaving for Alaska early in June to spend the summer. This will be our 20th summer. We always look forward to seeing our dear friends we've made over the years. Have a wonderful spring. May 18, 2014 We had a great weekend in Boise. Seven family members and one friend walked the 5k in the Famous Idaho Potato Marathon, (our daughter Melissa ran the whole way). Beautiful weather all weekend. Also celebrated our grand daughter's sixth birthday and took in some of the 4A state track meet where our 16 year old grand daughter ran the 100 meter hurdles. Love family time. Sept., 2014 After a rainy summer in Alaska, it's nice to be home where the temperatures are still in the eighties and nineties. Fishing wasn't great, but our daughter, Melissa, caught a 100# halibut. It was nice to have her and her son, Jackson, spend a few weeks with us. Our little community of Gustavus celebrated its 100th birthday in July with 3 days of activities. Now our activities are centered around the grandkids. With eight of them there is always some where to go. They seem to be growing up so fast, we have to take advantage of our time with them before they're off to college. Hope your days are filled with many blessings.

First trip out on the boat. They've worked so hard to get it ready. Thanks, Red, for being our back-up in case the pick-up died.

Good luck, guys.
