Mark's Story

I am very happy and content moving along on our life journey we have all been blessed with. I hope all of you are as well. I am divorced and have my children Benjamin (20/CMU), Anthony (19/GVSU) and Elisia (16/EKHS). After high school I went on to the University of Michigan > GO BLUE! < and majored in wine, women & Rock 'n' Roll > TOGA! <. After realizing they would not certify my choice of major, I took off to see the country and later returned to GR and went to work for Steelcase. After a very short marriage and divorce from HELL, I finally finished my B.A. at Aquinas (always a good Catholic boy) in Business Administration and Communications. I guess I took the road less traveled by... My ability to speak and write Spanish took me on a path to international sales which has taken me all over the world. I owe this to my parents Mark & Miren, both 83 years old and who have been living off the coast of Bradenton - Anna Maria Island, Florida for the last twenty years. After being busted with my hockey friends for drinking beer my freshman year, they exiled me to our native Spain for the summer. Thanks to them I learned the language which has taken me this far. Since then I have been to Europe countless of times with my family. We really l...Expand for more
ove the north of Spain where my family still has the restaurant and bakery business. In my career position I have been all over Mexico (I have a passion for Mexico), Central America and South America, including Brazil. I have been as far as China, Guam and the Philippines. I actually stood on the spot where Magellan was killed in Lapu-Lapu, Cebu (Philippines). One of my proudest moments was meeting Mexican President Vicente Fox in 2004 as part of the official State of Michigan delegation that greeted him on his state visit. My company was recognized that year for winning the '2003-2004 World Trader of the Year' award by the West Michigan World Trade Association. In 2005 I was appointed by Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez to the West Michigan District Export Council of Michigan, a federal appointment which extends through 2009. My best and most important trophies are my wife and children. Gina manages a local general dentist office. Benjamin is majoring in history and legal studies (pre-law) at CMU, Anthony is at GVSU on a full academic scholarship studying criminal justice and my Elisia is a sophomore at EKHS. She is a cheerleader and Dad is very, very, very proud to say she has been in Student Council for the last years! Go EKHS!
