Mark's Story
Got a graduate degree in Radio, TV & Film from Northwestern in 1981.
Spent 15 years in public radio--in Lafayette; Rochester, NY; Washington, DC; and various other ports of call. Spent a couple of years as a producer/writer/editor/newscaster at National Public Radio.
Moved into the Old West field in 2001.
I've published two books, appeared on the History Channel (Investigating History: The Dalton Gang Raid on Coffeyville), and addressed various conferences on outlaws and lawmen.
I'm now the Features Editor for True West magazine, a publication about Western history, culture, preservation and more.
I'm also t...Expand for more
he Managing Editor of Western Shooting Horse magazine, which covers the sport of Cowboy Mounted Shooting.
About five years ago, I made contact with a friend from the Lafayette Jeff band. Patty Straley and I had gone out a couple of times, then lost contact when I went to IU.
This time we clicked. Patty and I were married in December 2005. I couldn't be happier!
My stepson Eric Youngberg is in the Marines, stationed in San Diego. He's done one tour of Iraq--hopefully his last duty in a war zone.
Patty and I (and cocker spaniel Bailey) live in Avon, IN. We travel out West fairly frequently.
Life is good...
