Mark's Story
Life
It's been a long time since graduation. My brother Noel and I were in K Falls last summer to see my folks.
Now I live in Chantilly, Virginia with my wife Martha and three daughters. Rachel, our oldest daughter daughter is finishing up nursing school at George Mason University. Jessica, our middle daughter, is studying music at James Madison University. Erika, our youngest, is studying social work at Virginia Commonwealth University.
I retired from the Army in '97 and have been working as an arms contol consultant ever since.
My chief accomplishment over the last couple of years was to earn a Masters degree (after almost 30 years out of college).
Martha (Marty) is an artist, specializing in mohair teddy bears.
Marty and I met while serving in the same unit in Germany in 1980 and she has had the patience to put up with me for over 28 years
Hope the new year finds all who visit well and happy.
College
After High School, I went on to Southern Oregon, majored in History and graduated in 1974. College was an experience where learning was not confined to the classroom. I even spent some time on ...Expand for more
the stage, acting in several plays and musicals.
Almost 30 years later, I found myself back at a university, studying biodefense from the man who developed the Soviet anthrax program. Earned an MS in Biodefense from George Mason University in 2006.
Military
Joined the Marines right after graduation from Southern Oregon (MCRD San Diego) and did my first tour at Guantanamo Bay after spanish language school in Monterrey (75-78).
Left the Marines in '78 and joined the Army in '79. After basic Russian, did my first of three tours in Germany at Idar Oberstein and Baumholder. Went back to DLI for Int. Russian and spent the next three years "on the platform" (teaching basic and intermediate Russian) and as a platoon sergeant in F Co. Went back to Germany in '87 - V Corps G-3 BAT-D. Got my first exposure to OSIA as an in-country escort for the Intrmediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty. Went back to DLI for the OSIA interpreters course in '90. Went bask to Germany in '91 as a CFE inspector/escort. Pulled my last tour at OSIA's Washington Office in IOC. Retired in '97 and still live in the D.C. area.
