Mark's Story

During the torrid summer of '88, I met my wife Patty at a friend's gathering in Buffalo Hollow near High Bridge, NJ. She asked just three questions of me -Smoke? No! -Do drugs? No! -Eat onions and garlic? Why yes! I simply inquired if she knew how to make a good strawberry-rhubarb pie, and she did! The next day we danced to Queen Ida and the Bon Temps Zydego Band, so I was hooked. After proposing at Success Lake near Cassville (needed all the help I could get), we were married on our rented farm in Cream Ridge a year later. My dear daughter arrived in 1993. We returned to Richland in '97, cleared land that had once been a far-off parcel of the family farm, and built our current home. he place was changing for the worse. Sprawl crept in. Wetlands were drying up. As a volunteer on the local environmental commission, I discovered some unusual geologic features from the Ice Age. So I hooked-up with a renowned scientist from Canada, started publishing on the subject, and passionately pursue the cultural and environmental dynamics of our cold, dry, and windy past.
