Mark's Story
Life
I join the Navy in Â61 right out of Seacrest. Did
my boot-camp in San Diego, then my four years floating around through Japan, China, Thailand,
Philippines etc. Got extended another six months in Vietnam. The Navy trained me as an
electrician and IÂve worked that line in one way or another ever since.
When I got out I returned to Florida and lived in Boca for a year working for an electrical
contractor, then went back to California, and worked at Douglas Aircraft on the DC-9 electrical
systems. (Not TOO many of them crashed!)
That lasted two years or so, and from there I worked for manufacturing plants, electrical
contractors, electrical outside sales, and a few others. Also managed to use my GI Bill to get a
degree in Business Management. During that time I also got married. That lasted eight years, with
two children.
I then started my own business designing, building and installing custom electrical control systems
for waste treatment...Expand for more
and gas combustion systems. That took me to England, France, Brazil, and
others. Now THAT was fun times for about ten years. Tried marriage again in Â86. That lasted 12
years. Getting better, but still no cigar.
So, I was in California for 32 years. For that whole time my main hobby / interest / love was
racing dirt bikes in the deserts of California, Arizona, Nevada and Mexico. That just may explain
the poor marriage track record, but I sure had a lot of good times and even better friends.
Then, in the middle of Â97 my step dad died and left mom unable to care for herself. I shut down
the business and returned to Florida to take care of ÂthingsÂ. I now live in Fort Myers, work for an
electrical control company for a while but I'm now retired. Getting re-acquainted with the Florida humidity was a challenge. I canÂt
believe I used to do football practice, with full pads, in August!
ThatÂs a wrap!! Take care, and I hope to hear from you.
