Mark's Story
Been coaching gymnastics since high school. Competed for KU and Oklahoma University. Have a Bachelor of Education degree from OU and went to graduate school there to study sports science (primarily motivation in youth sports). Married Penny Meckenstock (South High 1979) in 79. We have 2 kids, one Grandson and one Granddaughter. I love being a Grandpa. Penny and I opened Folger's Gymnastics in 1986 and sold it to 2 former employees in 2014. national champions, 4 national team members. Our gymnasts have gone on to win 4 NCAA National Championships. I still love gymnastics after all these years, was chosen as the USA Gymnastics National Coach of the Year in 2009 and inducted into the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. I sometimes wonder what I'd be doing now if South High didn't have such a good gymnastics team and Wayne Dixon hadn't asked me to be part of that team. Or, if he hadn't asked Penny to be the team manager. Hmmm?
