Mark's Story

Fellow members of the Last of the First, I just got on here, after being on another site for years; sorry it's taken so long to get this done. After graduation, I enlisted in the USAF, and ended up serving six years in Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand, and then the last three in W. Germany. My gretest gift, was being intruduced to Jesus at Campus Life meetings while a senior at PHHS, so that when I went to SEA< I was a Christian, which made that whole experience much easier. When my wife (Lois, of 47 years together) and I got off active duty, we came back to San Diego. I was hired by American Honda (motorcycles) while in Germany, and they made me the Service Manager of Honda of El Cajon (now Motoworld of El Cajon). After two years, I went to work at the Main Post Office for four years. After that, I worked as an Engineering Manager of a company that worked solely on classified contacts for the USAF; weapons delivery systems, radar countermeasures, etc, We worked on the F/EF-111, SR-71, C-130 and other platforms. After Desert Storm, we shrunk greatly, and I was made our corporate "hatchet man" and had to lay-off two wholly-owned subsidiary companies and 105 engineers I had hired, trained, and worked with for many years, resulting in two strokes (stress induced; small popped capiliaries in my brain. I recoved totally, and then went back into law enforcement as it had less stress (to me). I have, to date, been shot, broken my back, had two strokes, four heart attacks, five meniscal tears chasing illegals, a double by-pass and died for 4 1/2 minutes, After all that, I was still working at the Border. I finally retired from the INS/ICE/CBP when it looked like Hillary was going to win, and I had already done eight years being prevented from doing our jobs. I ...Expand for more
now work for an Indoor Range two days a week, having been a firearms Instructor for 39 years,. While all that was going on, I had gotten all my advanced pilot ratings through the VA, and accepted a position as an Army Aviator (and Senior Aviator) in the Guard/Reserves. When our unit was dis-established, seven of us trasferred into the Coast Guard and I flew for five more years. Along the way, I managed to get a Master's and two Bachelor's degrees. As well, I taught the AOJ 132 Section (Advanced Firearms) class at Grossmont for six years, and served as a recurring lecturer for the Poly Sci department. Lois and I bought a house in Santee in 1980, and still live there, owning it free and clear.. I am looking forward to getting together with you all in August of 2022! Oh, and for those of you who remember me, I raced my last motorcycle race at the age of 61 in 2014 on a restored-for-the-race 1973 Yamaha 250MX which is now in a private collection. I still have a 1973 Yamaha RT-3, 360 Enduro (well breathed upon and barely street legal) and get together with like minded old farts for 10 days each year in Johnson Valley in the high desert, and after four days, move to Hungry Valley in the mountains near Gorman. I'm also very involved in my Church, formerly New Heights Community Church, next door to the Santee City offices, and now known as The Village Church, an outshoot of Skyline Wesleyan Church. For more than eight years, I have been the Director of Security and ran the Tech Services side of our programs, and am still serving in like fashion today. If any of you are shooters, stop by Discount Gun Mart, Santee (just North of Gillespie Field on Magnolia) on Monday or Thursday where I teach and say hi! Be well, stay safe, and may God Bless you all mightily!
