Mark's Story
Life
Been living in Raleigh NC for 16 years. Great small town. Married late at 36 and have a great wife and 3 kids, son 11, daughters 9 and 4. I'll be 64 when the last one gets to college. Whoo-hoo! I have two small businesses-one is a lab chemicals manufacturing business and the other is a medical device manufacturer. The first is rather mature and operating well, the second one is still in start up phase but might be pretty cool in a year or two.
With three squids, there isn't alot of time for extracurricular activities. I do get to the gym a good bit and do a fair bit of running. I'm still slow but I get into it because I can listen to all my old people music without interruption.
Quit smoking a long time ago. Wish I never would have done it in the first place. Quit drinking to excess a long time ago. From what I recall-I really enjoyed it.
Do I have any regrets? A few: I once owned a burnt orange colored diesel mercedes, I once did not wear enough sun-screen on Orient Beach in St. Maarten, I once wore Puka Shells, and I bought Plasma-HD too soon. I did a porno movie once, but it was because I needed the money. One of these...Expand for more
regrets is a joke. Guess which one.
What Have I learned: Less than I have forgotten probably. You should stretch. Get enough fiber. Do not smoke. Every day, after you get out of the shower look at yourself in the mirror and say "lookin good". Flossing is good. It is never too late for orthodontics. Drive a convertible. Wear cool sunglasses. Do not let anyone catch you listening to Abba. Fear not the colonoscopy-enjoy the anesthesia. Root for a team. Go to your kid's events-it matters.
Skateboarder clothes are cool at 50. Riding the half pipe is not a good idea at 50. Obese people on average use more soap. Surround yourself with optimists. The speedo is never a good thing-although telling your kids you are going to wear one to the beach is funny.
Something I don't understand: Ear hair-what's that about?
I turned 50 last month. It feels as though I was 20 and I blinked.
I think 50 is ok though. I don't at all feel as though I am on the downside-way too many things going on.
I just hope I get my braces off this year.
Send me a note sometime to say hey. I am at mark.hammersla at nsi-es.com. I will write you back.
