Mark's Story
Life after Valley View & V.H. Lassen -
My family moved from South Phoenix to Scottsdale in 1972 or so to be closer to my mom's doctors and medical specialist as she had a brain tumor since the 60's. I went to East High for awhile then transferred to Coronado High, but didn't graduate at either high school, but took my GED while at Fort Hood, Texas.
In May 1974, I dropped out when my dad had a heart attach & past away. My older brother Paul took me to Santa Rosa California, to live on a farm, where after he graduated college, that he moved up to Portland. I stayed on the farm and worked for room & board until I joined the U.S. Army in 1975 on a delayed entry in 1976. Basic training was at Fort Dix New Jersey and stationed at Fort Hood Texas in the HHC 1st Cav Div. attached to the 1st Bn, 7th Cav Div of the 1st Cav Div. until 1979. Gary Owen!
I returned to Phoenix and live in North Phoenix area and working various jobs. My mom died on Decenber 22nd 1982 and now the holidays are roughest as I just lost my younger brother Dan in May 2004 only 2 days before his 45th birthday as he was planning a 3 day motorcycle ride to his other home in Colorado just north of Durango. was not watching traffic as she pulled out into traffic as she hit & ran him over. Dan had a nice home here in Phoenix where he owned a business A-Accurate Lock Service for about 12 years or so.
I am single and had worked for various security companies doing jobs as doing payroll, scheduling and contucting interviews and hirer new security officers. I am now doing a security patrol route working on weekends, and working as a field rover on the other days 7 nights.
My brother's young son, Jeremy has had a rough time when his dad past away as he, at 15 yrs had to make the call to take him off of life support that he was in a coma and would have been paralized if he survived. Jeremy's mother had MS and unable to take care of herself as she moved in with her mother, but passed away April 2009.
Jeremy seeks my help on his vehicles and problems when he needs it. I have dedicated my life to be there for my nephews & they are impotant to me.
After my brothers memorial service, I started searching more for school friends after I saw how many of his school friends he stayed in touch with over the years. Of course he never was in the military and has always lived in Phoenix & Scottsdale.
