Mark's Story
God has been most gracious to me. It has been a pleasure to be married to the same supportive lady for 40 years.
While my employment history can be found on my LinkedIn page, it excludes having been on the Bangor Fire Department for 10 years (1978 – 1988) and managing Lowry and Associates, a personal injury law firm, when it first opened in Bangor. As a firefighter, on a couple of occasions through the use of cpr, I (with God’s intervention) was able to revive people who had died. One was an infant, who had gotten his neck caught between the slates in his crib, had stopped breathing, was blue and had no pulse when we arrived at the scene. The job may not have paid much, but it provided great satisfaction by being able to save lives, assist people with medical emergencies and limit property fire damage.
Since 1990, I have been a labor / employee relations consultant. My consulting assignments have allowed me to do some traveling – for about two years, I flew to Florida every Monday morning and back to Portland, ME every Friday night to spend the weekend with my wife (such travel is not quite as exotic as it may seem though).
Barely escaping Bangor High School, I went on to earn both a B.S in Education and an M.A. in Industrial and Labor Relations. Offered a graduate assistantship at Indiana University of Pa., my work included the re-employment efforts for over 10,000 laid off coal miners. Representing IUP, I worked on then Governor Casey’s rapid re-employment team establishing job fairs, writing resumes and establishing continuity of policies impacting unemployed workers across the counties in PA. Also, while at IUP, I was instrumental in organizing the nurses at Indiana Hospital where my wife worked.
We have been fortunate to live near the ocean in some great areas: Ferry Beach in Saco, Bar Harbor, Norfolk, VA and now in East Boothbay, ME. It is great to be able to hear the fog horn and the lobster boats as they start up in the morning to head out.

xcelled in playing softball (fast and slow pitch), those skills have not translated well into being successful at playing golf, but I continue to try. I play in the central Maine seniors’ league and then play other courses around the state.
In February 1972, I had a life changing experience. Despite being a nice a guy (you remember that don’t you), God (who knew he was still in business) confronted me with my sin (my failure to meet his standard of perfection that he requires of his creation). As it turns out, the Bible indicates that all of us have sinned (including the class of 1970) and have come short of God’s expectations (Romans 3:23). As a result, we all are under God’s wrath and face his judgement because we are not perfect (tough standard isn’t it, reminds me of Wally Woodcock’s English class, only tougher). Our only hope is for God to give us credit for righteous perfection, which we could never attain on our own so that we can have eternal life with God.
I found out that we can get that credit because Jesus died on a cross, offering himself as a sacrifice for your sins and mine, which God accepted. Though Jesus lived a perfect life, God made him legally guilty of all our sins. Those who confess their sins and believe that Jesus did this for them receive credit for his righteousness before God. As if that wasn’t enough, having died, he rose from the dead overcoming death so that when we die, we also live on in God’s presence forever.
You may think that there is another way to God, but Jesus made it pretty clear when he said, “I am the way (not a way or one of many ways), the truth and the life. No one comes to God except through me (John 14:6). I found out it is a simple process, I admitted that I was a sinner, confessed that Jesus is Lord (my new boss) and believed in my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, I was found righteous in God’s sight. The change in my life has been astounding. The same can happen to you. Have questions, contact me.
