Mark's Story
I've been in show business for 35 years. I began as a clown in a Toronto based troupe called Puck Rent-A-Fool which evolved into Puck's Canadian Travelling Circus, a one-ring show under a big top that toured Ontario for five years. I made my first film appearance in Sidney Lumet's Equus as a clown on horseback in a dream that comes to the troubled Alan Strang.
My acting career grew as I was cast as a clown or little person, but I also appeared in Canadian dramas and comedy programs, danced with the National Ballet and sang in a Ukrainian Opera. While often typecast as a robot, alien or monster, I relished the roles and learned as much as I could from the actors I was privileged to work with. Being cast as myself was a breakthrough, and while not always successful, I endeavour to find roles that are not specifically written for a little person.
In 1994 I left Canada to travel, from Saudi Arabia, to Hong Kong, and finally settling in Cambodia where I stayed for six years. I opened a res...Expand for more
taurant in Phnom Penh and continued my acting work by bringing play readings and musical performances to culturally starved expats. I also appeared in locally produced pantomimes and theatrical productions.
I returned to Canada in 2004 and recharged myself working with motivated and creative young filmmakers in student and independent productions. The work took me from Toronto to New York to Chicago to Minneapolis to LA. Each time I travelled, another opportunity would invariably present itself. As a result I landed my first Hollywood feature (Strike: Balls of Glory), an award winning mockumentary (The Orientation of Han Sum), and the critically acclaimed production of Ibsen's DollHouse produced by New York's Mabou Mines Theatre Company.
Meanwhile, back in Toronto, I continue to find work in local comedy programs, music videos and commercials.
You might have seen me recently on The Jon Dore Show, HotBox or Kenny vs Spenny. When you're only four feet tall, things are always looking up!
