Mark's Story
Hi All! Said I would never look back to that time, but here I am . . . Recently retired after working 38 years in the woods as a forester. Share my home with my dog Jack and cats Dez and Max. Again, said I'd never be a cat person, go figure . . . Live in Union Washington just above the canal. Besides work I enjoyed a life of bicycling, climbing and backpacking. Throw in some fishing, wood working and gardening to round out my spare time. Did spend 3 years building a log home from trees on my land. I would recommend it just once in your life though. Retirement to me has been more time for backpacking and easier climbs, time in the gym, time in my shop. I enjoy adventure travel: need to hike it, climb it, float it . . . Be a part of it rather than a passive visitor. I would be bored on a cruise, but delighted rafting a remote river. When I look at our class on CM I recognize some names, retain some memories. s one day I may appear at a reunion . . . Then you can try to remember who that guy is. To those of our class that served, or raised those that did or married someone who did, my hat is off to you all. Thank you. For now take care, Mark
Epilogue, but not the final chapter: this summer of 2018 I met my soulmate, Heather. Thought soulmate was just a myth until she entered my life. She has a passion for the mountains that rivals mine. She is an avid hiker and talented photographer. We have just begun to plan our future and adventures. Alaska this winter to shoot the northern lights, Iceland this summer with day an overnight jaunts into the mountains to fill the space between. She and her son are part of my life .
Update 2: surviving COVID, staying healthy so far. Lots of time in the mountains social distancing. Heck I’m there anyway regardless. Heather and I just enjoying life to it’s fullest. Best to all in 2021..
