Mark's Story
Here's my brief story -
After Solon I went to Denison and finished with a degree in physics. I was out of school for a while before getting an MD degree that Case Western and then did general and cardiac surgery residencies at Johns Hopkins and the University of Pennsylvania. I ended up in San Francisco working at the Veterans Hospital there as cardiac surgeon and then Chief of Surgery. I'm still working but now as the senior surgery consultant for the VA in Northern California and Nevada. I plan to give up the administration stuff in the next year or two and concentrate on my research in heart failure.
I met my wife, Sharon Pilmer, in medical school and we've now been married for 35 years. She worked as a pediatric anesthesiologist at Oakland Children's and now i...Expand for more
s the medical director of their LEAN process improvement program. We have two kids - a boy and a girl. Emily worked in fine dining for a while but now has her own consulting business in Napa. Andrew works full-time but is still not launched from home.
I remember Solon very fondly as it was formative for me in many ways. Specifically, I remember Mrs. Williams AP English class, band, and the plays that we did in junior and senior year. I'll never forget Joanne Skinner as Helen Keller or Duane Kasten yelling "one squirt" in Molière's the Imaginary Invalid.
For a while I thought I was going to make the trip to attend the 50th reunion but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I wish everybody well and would love to hear from anyone that wants to say hello.
