Mark's Story
Life
I'm still living in Thousand Oaks (2009), but it's certainly changed from what it was in 1979. It's still not a bad place to call home, even if the traffic and crowds have increased dramatically.
Professionally, things are rolling along pretty well. I enjoyed a ten-year run working on a NASA project that had me living in Kauai from 2001-03. I was on the team that flew the solar-powered Pathfinder and Helios aircraft to almost 100,000 feet in 1995-2001, setting several records in the process, and was named on the patent that was awarded later. Never in my wildest dreams could I have expected to be part of something like this. While the loss of Helios during a test flight in '03 was a big blow, I was thrilled to be sent to Washington, D.C., in January of '07, to hang the surviving Pathfinder airplane in the new Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy museum next to Dulles Airport. Although this program is now a memory, I'm proud to have been a part of it.

rs--are back in the Thousand Oaks area. June, 2009, saw the passing of my extremely violent terrier mix, Pancho. He had a wild and crazy 14 years with me and I miss him terribly. Current dogs are my boxer Jackson, and pug/terrier mix Abigail. Despite a 40-lb. weight difference, they are best friends.
The TOHS 30-year reunion in October was an absolute success. Many of the folks I saw went back to my grade-school days, so we all had a lot to talk about. I urge anyone who's never gone to a class reunion to go--you won't regret it.
This is always a fun site to visit. I'm always interested in what people are up to, even those I haven't seen for many years as well as those I'm not likely to ever see again. One thing that has always bothered me, though, is to see the list of those who've passed on increase, so I'd like to end this with the following: If something seems like a good idea at the time, but you have to have someone hold your beer while you try it, it's probably not a good idea. PLEASE BE SAFE OUT THERE!
