Mark's Story
Hi , to the class of 71 Hamilton ; Milwaukee had a nice listening soundstage. And that included our Jr. and sr. high years.
Jr. High Loving Spoonful, th Rascals , Bread , America etc. 60’s too Itchico Park , Chicago , the Buckinhams , the Beatles the Zombies, the Kinks , the animals , the Hollie’s (Carrie Anne ) Santana , Johnny Mathis , Petula Clark , Dusty S , Marianne Faithful , John L , George Harrison , the Crystals , Roy Orbison , Buddy Holley Three Dog Night , By God our 71 classmates heard it all . Thankfully sharing with my lifelong team, today . Mark T
Ps. Spent my nights grade school 6th Washington Milw. listening to Woky all night ( low volume) I remember Tony’s Tigers “ Duke of Earl “ the Mcoys , Ruby and the Romantics , the Four Tops , Temptations the Legends ( Milw group) etc. At the same time I was learning handball / dodgeball survival skills , boxing at the Milw . Christian Center across the street . I had child hood friends ( who lived nearby) who became 3 and 4 Star Air Force generals ( appointed by Zablocki )and one an allied forces commander Europe and Africa , ( Stan Gorenc 3 star and younger brother 4 star ) When Roy Orbison sang , “Pretty Woman” I had my eye on one of the the grade school gals whom I also met on a tennis court ten years later ( she and I remembered each other by sight and name !) Anyhow, fellow 71 Hamilton alumni it’s been a pleasure and hope for learning more about our shared history! And again , I hope ya’lll continue sharing historical insights with all our fellow Hamilton 71 grads and their families. As for me , I’ve only scratched that surface history, today.
Pps. The man who did all the stations of the cross ( one a year , Holy Hill , Hubertus , Wi ) was the live in beau of my great granny in Milw until her death ; my mom called him grandpa ( with the sausage “ chiseling “ fingers ) Old Milw. Polish story …. Share your Milw. story too . I’d love to read it! Mark A Talamantes
My mom’s maiden name was Gronkowski like the Patriots football player, Rob . My family favorite food was not tacos ( actually it was tostadas ) ) mom used newspaper to absorb the lard from the tostada shell )and we loved Polish sausage ! We were a mostly happily culturally , blended band of families like many others . . . M Anybody miss George Webb burgers , right now , like me ? This latest paragraph entry was posted from South Milwaukee today April 15 , 2024 from your 71 Hamilton , alumnus .Pretty day today ! Out .
Best homemade flour tortillas I ever tasted were made by my 80 plus year old grandfather , Angel Sr. at my home 35th Mitchell early 1970 ish. I watched this master roll out the dough add his ingredients etc. He was a man well over six feet tall who was quiet , efficient and very purposeful . 🌵😉
Years earlier , on 6th and Virginia across from “Conejitos “ near the now Harley Davidson hq Milw. , this ( grandpa) man saved me from the police because as a pre teen then; I ( once ) broke windows ( what else was there to do , lol )in that hood for fun. In his broken English , he redirected the cops at his “doorway “away from me ( potential arrest of a pre teen, me) . As the cops questioned him , I “hid “ in his basement . Thank God , for our” hero “ grandparents! M , a pre teen “ vaguely “ potential criminal( lol )who did ok in the “ wicked / somewhat dangerous , yet beautiful near south side hood that I gladly called , my home . Regardless , I had a lot of “ healthy fun” fun too !
Hamilton High , my other “ hero” among many others and also all of my fellow 71 grads who are still troopers today. “ Keep on trucking .” Mark , BA , UWM 76 , and Masters in English Lit , U North Florida 1985 maybe that explains my love for the “old “ 71 ( let’s call it our h. .s classic ) classmate , story . Out , 😌April 26 , 2024 , ( today ) South Milwaukee . out for just now , Mark Angel Talamantes.” 71 “

e with a Cinamon girl, Neil Young . Our class song memories ; maybe we can hear and remember them at the next reunion! The 50 th reunion at Jackson Park , Milw .had music in the last hour or less. Maybe our next reuinion will have “ our “ music that we can all “groove “ to and share an old timers dance with each other’s spouses with permissions . Lol
Today , April 30 th at Grant Park , South Milw. Olga and I met two young girls from Somalia ; they were playing tennis for the first time in their native robes! They were very nice and said good things about Olga and I as we batted the ball. Now at the same time people ( back in the park field ) were blasting music Latino , country, rock ; you name it! Got to admit I was doing a little shake the old bones here and there routine to the blasting beat . Yeah , we were all juveniles too!
True story . (Late eighties ) My wife and I went out to a Cuban restaurant in Jacksonville Fl. I saw this guy with his friends walk in and ask for a table ; the owner said caint you see we are full. Anyhow , I noticed he had ripped jeans that looked expensive! I told my wife that looks like Hall of Hall and Oates fame. “ Maneater “ Wait for me “ my favorite. Anyhow this hole in the wall with great food owner that day did not serve him. It turns out I was right Hall and Oates had a concert downtown Jacksonville that night. I felt bad ; I was ready to leave and could have given him my table. I told the Cuban / American owner that he was one member of the most famous rock star duos of all time. And he told me , if the President of US came in and I had no tables ; I could’nt serve him either! 😎
Ps. I was the only person that recognized him , and then he and his pals just walked out ! Ps. Wife and I saw John Bolton at the Pfister / Milw. bar . Another famous intimate sighting , lol. 💤
The year later ( 72) we 71 grads left Hamilton ; we embarked to college work etc. And my favorite song was by the Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose , “ It’s too late to turn back now “ And that my fellow grads brought back many special moments of the Hamilton 71 insiders who along with me shared a “ cool” history. 👍
Two other cool songs , “ Pretty Woman “ Orbison early 60’s “ Theme from a Summer Place 1960. And , “ Candy Girl “ the four seasons , “!with hugging and kissing … candy girl.” “ she sets my heart a whirl … “ candy girl , candy girl.! “ I also thought Connie o was a good 4 season tune/ “Rag doll “ nice!!!❤️👍” When we’re out together everyone knows how we feel…”’Candy girl , Candy girl.” 💕” and it’s plain to see our love is real .” Out Mark ✍️
One cold winter night driving home from work at an indoor tennis court near the airport in Milw. nearly had a head on crash with my female passenger , the song on the radio was “ Let it ride “ Bachman Turner Overdrive .
Good songs distract us !Lol .

Seeet pea
Girl watcher

Suspicion
Hang on sloppy
Sit down zi think I love you
Venus
Crimson and Clover
Disk jock Bob Barry , Bob Knight etc.
Gene Pitney early 60’s , “ Just one smile” “ It hurt to be in love “ Only love can break a Heart “ 24 hours from Tulsa” “ The man who shot Liberty Valance” ; just a few of his may hits! He was of Polish / Italian descent . and he passed in England after a concert. His music( along with the many others) smoothed the rough edges ( ie made it romantic!!!) for my many near south side adventures .Many years later. I went to see him at Summerfest and his show was cancelled because of his laryngitis . Milwaukee radio played him constantly in the 60’s a great singer with many hit singles ( 45’s) who shaped an era of music , but was sadly , I suspect(and likely many others too , agree) ) , very underrated . M
