Mark's Story
Hello everyone,
Just a quick update from Payson, Utah...
I can't believe it has been so long since I updated, I have been busy with just living and trying to be the best friend, husband, dad and grandpa that I can be. I enjoy spending time with my four children (3 who left home awhile ago) their spouses and my grandchildren. My youngest, who is developmentally disabled, will always be with me. I uploaded a picture from 2+ years ago from my daughter's wedding. What I thought was a medication issue concerning my weight just turned out to be a calorie intake issue. It's funny how I sometimes mistake the obvious as an excuse. I decided before Thanksgiving last year to deal with my faux pas and I can happily say that things have been and are being corrected. I wish my doctor would have pointed this out sooner, but I really appreciate he did.
I lost my wife to COVID on the 20th of January 2024. I am doing fine as she had been ill since I met her and she battled many close brushes with death. Her heart stopped more than 8 times during our marriage, but she was always restarted. I used to refer to...Expand for more
her as my "zombie wife" but she informed me that she was "just to mean to die". I always marveled at the way she could make friends with anyone so easily and she also had the best laugh. We said our goodbyes long ago, but one can never really prepare completely. Life continues and I am just thankful that I had the opportunity to spend the time with her that I did.
I have been keeping busy with many projects. I still enjoy carving and painting waterfowl decoys; creating some detailed, authentic medieval and modern furniture; making weapons and icons for individuals that have a penchant for exact historical pieces and inlaying exotic wood chests for several new grand babies that have recently come to bless our lives. I enjoy gardening and playing in the outdoors. I am currently starting a renovation on my home and hope to begin a build on a home for one of my daughters and her husband this coming year. I have always thought that if you stay busy, you will never grow old.
I plan on attending our 50th reunion. In the meantime, I would not mind hearing from anyone, so please just drop me a line...
