Mark Black:

CLASS OF 1982
San antonio, TX

Mark's Story

Life When it's 25 years later, where do you start? When you think about it, high school was more than half a lifetime ago. Let's see, went to the U.S. Naval Academy after HS graduation. Only stayed two years because the military in its infinite wisdom told me I could not become a pilot (…and it wasn't because of vision). Came back to SA, married my HS Sweetheart, (love of my life, Class of '83), and am quickly approaching 23 years of wedded bliss. I became a father to a wonderful son (poor kid… looks like me. Just graduated from Baylor and is going to Texas A&M in the fall to start grad school). I tried two or three careers, but decided to become a Fire Fighter in 1988, love what I do, and have been one ever since. I've managed a few promotions, hold a few ...Expand for more
specialty certifications, and currently hold the rank of District Chief. I guess the cumulative stress of being responsible for the preservation of life, property, and the American way might show, as I am mostly grey in the scalp. Either that or it is heredity… since I got my first grey hair at age 21…. After leaving USNA, I was sick of taking 20-21 hours a semester and took a long break from school, but eventually went back to earn an Associates in Civil Engineering. I mow my own grass, fix my own cars, am President of my HOA (thankless job…), and I am thoroughly involved in our local Fire Fighter's Association, but might take a break soon and go back to school, since I am almost at that point in my life where I have decided what I want to be when I grow up.
