Mark's Story
Having been bitten by the space bug while at San Jacinto Junior High, from MHS I went to Purdue and majored in astronautical engineering. I began working at NASA in Houston in 1967 as a co-op student on the Apollo program, and went on to the Apollo-Soyuz, Space Shuttle, Space Station, and Lunar-Mars Exploration programs in positions progressing from engineer to NASA Assistant Administrator in Washington. Along the way I was also Director of the Stennis Space Center outside New Orleans and a space consultant to museums and themed attractions. e learned he would command Apollo 11; inspecting the fueled Space Shuttle on the pad just before launch; and in the White House briefing the Vice President on Lunar-Mars exploration. Retired, I'ÂÂm now volunteering art history research to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston ... perhaps my true other brained calling.
I'm married to Christy whom I met in the Guadalupe River at a Hill Country Presbyterian camp. Life has been enriched beyond measure by Christy and our daughters now 18 and 16, and by my step-daughter and her daughters now 11 and 9.
What a wonderful journey, shaped in so many ways by growing up in Midland!
